On the subject of outdoor calorie estimation

So, I've recently taken up running outside. I used to run on a treadmill, which was nice, but I no longer possess a treadmill since I moved.
My question is thus: how do you estimate how many calories you've burnt when running? Or at least how fast you're going? I want to put down an estimation, not just what the site gives me on it's formula, but I don't know how...

if you have a smartphone, download an app. there are a ton out there - some i think even come with a heart rate monitor option (but of that i am not positive), and most ask you for your height/weight/age/sex, and will monitor your speed and map your run and tell you your average speed at the end of your run, how long you were out, how far you went, calories burned, etc.0

the Nike running app is pretty good, you download it onto your phone and it has a gps tracker that knows exactly how far you went and how fast, and calculates how many calories based on that and the weight you put in. Its free0

This. There are those with HRM options, however, you need to purchase one that will link to that particular app.
Or you can do it the old fashion way - time your run and measure with a car after. Slightly higher tech, map it online (mapmyrun is a good one, they also have an app if you have a smartphone). Plug in your time and distance here
