Hey, guys. I'm actually really shy when it comes to posting on the message boards, so I pushed myself to post at least once.

So here's my story. I haven't been the kindest on my body, especially since I'm a chocoholic. I really love all sorts of pastas, rices, potatoes, ect... and all of that seems to have gone straight to my butt and thighs. I'm rather pear-shaped.

Well, an alarm inside me went off when I saw my physician for a flu about three weeks ago, and I found out I was 202 pounds. According to my doc, my ideal weight for my body structure would be around 130-128. I also realized my knees were hurting more and more due to my weight problems. (I hadn't put 2 and 2 together before this.)

That's when I decided it had to be done. I couldn't let my unhealthy family influence me anymore. I felt a lot better from the illness just six days later, and that's when I kicked it up. My diet had to change. All those things I loved had to go. Although I admit, I keep chocolate around in small quantities, such as the occasional granola bar, for right now. I had been high-tailing the cardio, and recently added in some strength training.

I'm now 189, and it's only been a couple weeks. I don't plan to stop anytime soon~!

Stick with MFP and log everything, make sure you weigh or measure your food and read all you can so you don't make this harder than it needs to be. Good luck!

Very courageous to share when it is hard for you! Keep up the good work. Try dark (Very dark like at least 70%) chocolate as a substitute. Small amounts satisfy. As a fellow chocoholic it has kept me sane!

I would say don't cut foods out permanently.... unless you can live the rest of your life without them. If you want to keep weight off you have to change your life, not your diet alone.

It's fine if you have to do it in the beginning to avoid temptation of binging on them... but add them back in slowly after you've gotten the hang of your weight loss.

  • You can do this.....we can do this. I am in the same boat as you in regards to current and ideal weight. I am just addicted to Dr Pepper and not the diet kind. Key is to not deprive yourself but keep it in moderation. The more you deprive the more you will crave it and then overeat. Let's do this together.

I started using the myfitnesspal app on my droid phone a few months ago. That helped me track how much and more importantly what I was eating each day. I drive 4+ hour trips almost weekly, so I listen to audiobooks. I picked up the audiobook 'Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It' by Taubes. It was around six hours long and helped me to understand that reducing the carbs I took in was the best help for preventing and reversing fat storage. I stick to green vegetables and other carbs that don't go straight to my bloodstream. I keep the insulin levels down in my blood most of the time, and that has helped me reduce body fat. Cardio and strength training are big pluses. Keep using the tools and look back at what you are taking in. Good luck.
