Why Did I Gain Weight on MFP and lifting heavy????

Okay wtf!!! I decide to step on the scale at work and it says 160lbs!!!! I thought I was 150lb!!! This means I gained 10lbs!!!!! Yes I have been lifting heavy but everybody says that u don't build muscle while eating at a deficit so WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF!!!!!!!
Ive noticed a small change in my body like fitting some of my clothes better but where in the #$%^ did these 10lbs come from??? My TDEE is 2200 approx, I eat 1700cals a day, lift heavy 3 times a week (Started in Feb), play badminton once, and walk 2-3 times a week. Plus I did the 30 day squat challenge for April. Starting in April I stopped messing up on the weekends and NEVER going over cals. Why why why why why!!!! I try so ****ing hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably one of two things going on here: scale problems or muscle gain. Scales can be calibrated differently, so the number you see on one is not the same as what you'd see on another. As for not gaining muscle while eating at a deficit, I'm not sure. All I know there is that muscle definitely weighs more than fat, but burns calories faster. Actually, your metabolism may be a little screwy since you started gaining muscle. Your body is able to burn faster, but it thinks it's not getting enough calories, so it goes back to storing. I feel like many of the threads I've seen here to do with lifting or strength training in general encourage upping your calorie intake when you add strength training, to balance everything out.
You mentioned that some of your clothes are fitting better. Have you taken measurements? Particularly as you start toning up, those numbers will be a better indication of your size than the one on the scale. Comparison pictures are another good way to judge. There's a thread in success stories, "125 lbs no exercise compared to 135 lbs weight lifting," that demonstrates this perfectly. Check it out; I think it'll help you to rethink your progress.

You gained 10lbs over what time frame? Are you using the same scale in the same location for all your weigh ins?
On a side note...
If your body is changing, why the hell do you care what the scale says. It's just a goddamned number. Get over it.0 -
Are you sure you weighed 150 before or is that just what you thought you weighed? Do you weigh yourself regularly on the scale at work? If you normally weigh without clothes at home and weigh in clothes at work, there is going to be a difference in those numbers. You can't really use different scales and different circumstances to measure progress, and if you're not weighing on a pretty regular basis, you don't really have any way of knowing how much of that suspected increase is water/waste as opposed to muscle or fat.
You said your clothes are fitting better, so you probably have not gained much, if any, fat.
Also, are you sure you are tracking your calories accurately? Is it at all possible that you are eating more than you realize because you are leaving out oils, condiments, sauces, random pieces of candy, extra creamer in your coffee, etc.?0 -
I'd bet my left tata it's scale related as you said it was at work. If you are weighing on a totally different scale at a totally different time dressed and you are getting this stressed then shame on you. Weigh on the same calibrated scale, in the same location at the same time, naked, and once a week. That's my advice.0

10lbs of muscle gain would usually only been seen in months of training. could be a different scale, water weight, both of those items.... Hard to say.0

Thanks for the advice people. I definately was 150lbs 2 months ago on my dial scale at home. I haven't weighed since until today at work (digital scale, fully clothed) So there def would be some differnece i understand. At the end of June, im gonna way on the work scale again to keep the weigh in consistant. And yes I measure and log everything accurately.0

you are weighing under different conditions on different scales. The 2 numbers are basically COMPLETELY unrelated.0 -
Different scale. Fully clothed. At work (so probably after eating breakfast.) Possible water retention. TOM by chance? There are so many factors here.
'Sides, as others have said, if you are losing inches why do you care what the scale says? I gained 8 lbs in a week the first week I started this journey but lost 6 whole body inches. Don't ask me to explain how that works, I don't know but I don't care. I am smaller, that's good enough for me.0 -
If I put my scale on a different part of the bathroom floor it reads different so I wouldn't worry too much if this on a completely new set of scales - stick with one set for your base measurements.0

Came home and weighed myself with just shorts and tshirt and weighed 153on my dial scale.... Big difference between work scale and my scale. Don't u think my work scale would be more accurate though since it's calibrated annually??? Anyways, when i felt my best, I weighed only 140lbs and that was on the scale at work with clothes (obviously) But since im heavy lifting i guess the scale hasn't really moved at all because i am still fluculating on my home dial scale from between 150-155lbs. BUT like already said, i do see a little body comp improvement. I just want to be able to fit back into my prepreg clothes that i wore when i weighed 140lb (work scale 140lb) Retarded how scales are so different. Does anyone really know what they weigh? What scale is 100% accurate?0

In order to fit the pants, I need to lose a good 4 inches to get them buttoned. Pathetic!!!0
