I'm a little confused about this TDEE thing. So I did the calculator, it said my BMR was 2318 and my TDEE was 3593... take away 20% of the TDEE and I'm supposed to be eating 2874 calories?? How is that possible/how would that work? That's even more than MFP auto-set for me (2130). I think I'm calculating this wrong lol.

Well I may be wrong but with MFP calculations you can eat your excercise calories back..takes that into account..where the other way you where describing...20% you don't eat them back. As far as whether the amount is right...hard to say don't know what your current weight is.0

340 LBs, 5'8 and I work out 3 times a week. I'm also a server so I work a job where I'm constantly on my feet and always moving.0

start eating at 1800 cal per day, drink LOTS of water, weigh EVERYTHING, do that for a week, weigh in and see what the difference is, the best TDEE calculator is your own detail0

the essence of this is to be completely honest about everything that passes your lips, and work to find the calorie and nutrient information as exactly as you can, btw, pre booking your food diary really helps you get through the day
to be honest, to get to your weight you're eating bad food choices & snacking a lot, these are the biggest challenges to you, to commit to yourself to change your lifestyle
I have a new grand daughter & I'm 53; my father died of a heart attack aged 51 & never got to see or meet 9 of his 10 grand children; my inspiration is to see all mine grow up & to play with them
heavy people will encounter significant health problems and a reduced life expectancy, that is hopefully inspiration enough, but finding something in your own life to look forward to helps to keep the drive & the commitment
spend time regularly reading the success stories on this forum, they are truly inspirational; hopefully soon you'll become one of them,

It seems like a lot but it will work. Another thing, it's not like you will eat at that forever and continue to lose weight, you will adjust every 10 pounds!0

But I will add this and some may or may not agree with me. WIth your weight you can afford to lower your cals a bit more, I personally would. I would eat closer to the 2000-2300 mark. But that's just what I would do.0

The difference with mfp and tdee is, well for me, I don't exercise everyday. You eat at tdee every day or the 20% cut. So mfp would zig zag cals, also most people have said that even eating their cals back like mfp suggests that it does not reach their tdee cut or is off a good deal0

Thankyou again :] And yes, well, my inspiration/motivation is I just don't want to be in pain anymore! I ruptured a disc in my back at 17, and over the course of 11 years and deep depression gained a good 150 LBs. I stopped participating in a lot of physical activities during the beginning of my injury, and that laziness just became habit and before I knew it I was at where I am today. I'm just tired of my last thought before falling asleep, and my first thought when waking being "how am I still alive?"0 -
don't forget, this lifestyle we're all on is 75% what we eat & 25% exercise, it starts in the kitchen!
so, look around on here, get a sense of healthy eating, pre plan your days intake, & I'd include snacks, I eat 5 or 6 times a day, 200-300 cal each time
& whilst the gym is good, do some simple walking, start at 15 mins, then build it up0 -
I would think if you entered those numbers then that should be correct amount to start from and if you aren't seeing results make some adjustments. Feel Free to add me as a friend..support is very important
