Artificial sweeteners

I have lost 60 lbs with low fat artificial sugar foods and started to experience horrendous neck/shoulder pain. I have since spent $$$$ on primary doc, chiropracotr, neurologist, and finally breast reduction surgery to alieviate neck/shoulder pain and arm numbness. NO relief.
Finally I did some research to find fake sugars cause muscle/joint pain and numbness (among other symptoms.). I'm looking for others that have had similar experiences and then successes after dumping the fake sugars.

I stay away from artificial sweetners after having some bad experiences. I thought I was doing myself a favour by using products with aspertame, splenda (etc) but after experiencing headaches, nausea, and joint pain, I went back to real sugar - issues resolved.
These days I'm cutting back on refined sugar, but I'm not looking to replace it with anything at all.0 -
I've never experienced what you described there, but artificial sweetners give me headaches. If I use anything that's not plain old sugar it's honey or stevia (great stuff and not artificial). There are also other natural sweetners like agave nectar and yacon syrup, but I've never tried those out so I can't give any opinions on them.0

Ive never experienced any of those symptoms and i have truck loads of aspartame as i am diet cola addict . Honey is good for sweetning things up. But i have heard alot of bad thngs about sweetners, so maybe they are the cause. My friend calls aspartame 'poison'.0

I try to avoid anything artificial. Maybe you could cut back on the sweeteners and see what happens. Hope you feel heaps better soon.0

please please avoid artificial sugar, anything with aspartame, etc.
aspartame IS poison.
there are so so so so many studies that show how aspartame are linked to so many negative health effects, including cancer being the biggest one. even if you don't have any side effects now, they will come with time.

They say nearly everything is linked to cancer at one point or another. And if it was so dangerous why is it so widely used? Why havent they banned it?

I had a bad reaction to it and ended up in hospital but my mate doesn't have a problem with it. 'Some people' say that it isn't banned because it makes too much money for the (cough) elites of this world *puts on tinfoil hat and hides behind the sofa*0 -

no, actual published, peer-reviewed, empirical studies, you know, something that has an intro, methods, results, discussions, most likely received funding from NIH, if you've ever read one before.
i am in medical school right now, and have studied organic chemistry extensively. they teach you this in school: the dangers of aspartame. if you are studying the relevant topics then you know how harmful it is.
we've gone through the chemical structures of aspartame and the reactions they undergo in your body.
the chemical structure is close enough to glucose to trick your body into thinking it tastes sweet. but this slight alteration in functional groups does not make it safe. it is still an alteration that causes side reactions in your body that glucose does not.
my chemistry professors, especially my organic chemistry professors have openly voiced their personal opinions against artificial sweeteners.
if you want to trust the same kinds of organizations and corporations that approve and stand by mass production of genetically modified food, then go ahead!0 -
Some of the fake sugars give me horrid headaches (aspartame) but others don't affect me at all. I ingest 2-4 of the little serving packets of splenda most days. Maybe I'll develop a sensitivity to that as well but until I do, I'll keep using it in moderation.0

Of the mountain of studies that have been done on aspartame, a miniscule few have shown this -- by giving ridiculously large doses to rats. And they have not been replicated.
The weight of the evidence shows that aspartame is perfectly safe.0
