I usually buy the tuna kits. that way I can make sure I don't use too much mayo. That is about all I do. Sorry.

I love mixing a drained can of tuna with 2 boiled eggs, 1/2 cup sliced grapes, 2 tblsp red onion, 1 tsp grated lemon zest, with black pepper; mix with 3 tblsp mayo, 2 tblsp sour cream. YUMMY and good for you!!! This makes 4 servings.

Don't have any answers but I am curious to see any answers...was craving a tuna melt today but I didn't do it b/c it was 900+ calories (at Jason's Deli where we were ordering from) I was kinda dissapointed with the lower cal option but I was a good girl :)

Ooh, the replies so far are very helpful! The only thing I can add is that sometimes I use a low-fat/low-carb salad dressing instead of mayo. Gives it more zip and less cals!

I use light mayo, hard boiled egg white, sweet relish, and spicy brown mustard.

Thanks for the ideas! I will give them a try.

I might as well share one way I love to make it. A friend of mine from Mexico taught me this.

1 large can well drained tuna
    diced tomatoe to taste
the juice of 1 - 3 limes. Enough juice to disguise the tuna taste
generouse amount (to taste) of fresh chopped cilantro
1/2 to all of one medium onion diced
    salt and pepper
fresh avacado in small chuncks - can leave out if you don't like it.
This is wonderful on pita's, lettuce, whole grain bread, wraps or tostatads
This is very fresh and light, I love it!

    Boring, standard way:
    1 can water packed tuna
    2 tbsp olive oil mayo
    2 tsp mustard
2 tbsp sweet pickle relish or whatever a serving of whatever pickle slices I have on hand

Sometimes I add in onion, or hard boil some eggs and add them in there, or mix in a little celery seed (but I don't like actual celery in it)

This sounds great! I'll have to try next week. Now if only I could get by with putting cilantro in everything else at home (I love cilantro, my husband hates it. It's sad.)

I like to take a can of tuna (drained) and mix in 2 tsps of Robert Rothschild Farm - Cilantro Jalapeno Mustard.

Makes 2 servings that are 50 cals each.

I agree, what a great idea! I love limes and I love cilantro, and my husband HATES cilantro. Gonna try it this week! Oh yeah, and I love avocados too but only eat them on my exercise days when I know I earned them!

Hi Molly, I searched around on the internet and came up with this recipe for how I make my tuna salad, give it a try if you like. Best wishes on your weight loss goals!

1 can (5oz) Chicken of the Sea Chunk Light Tuna in water
2 Tsp Mt. Olive Sweet Relish, No Sugar Added
1 Tbsp Kalamata Gold Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    1 Tsp Kroger Dijon Mustard
    1 Tsp Publix Lemon Juice
2 Tbsp (1 oz) Trader Joe's Organic Greek Style Nonfat Yogurt Plain
    Fresh Onion (yellow)
    Salt and Pepper
Drain the tuna and place contents in mixing bowl, then chop onions and add to bowl.
Place all other ingredients together in the bowl and then mix with a fork.
    Salt and Pepper to taste

You can then put the salad in a serving dish and pair with pita chips, crackers or bread.
You can also dress up the salad by placing the tuna in a whole grain tortilla with tomato slices, lettuce leaf, peppers and apple slices. You can also use any type of onion and less of the yogurt if you don't want it creamy.

I usually take a can of tuna, drain it, add curry powder to taste (i love curry powder on tuna!) and salt and pepper, and 1-2 tbsp of miracle whip. It tastes great.

If you are craving grilled tuna, follow the same instructions as above, place half the mixture on a slice of bread, and top with a slice of kraft singles cheese (low fat or fat free). Cover with another slice of bread and cook in a frying pan until lightly brown on the one side (pressing it down with a spatula), then flip over and cook the other side. You don't need to add too much butter/margerine to the frying pan. It is delicious if you cook it long enough to melt the cheese into the tuna.

I don't know the calorie content, but here's one I've made before:

    1 can tuna
    1 can diced tomatoes
1 small box frozen peas - i steam them until hot and still have a little bite to them, not mushy
1 small box elbow macaroni, prepared
    mayo to taste
    pepper to taste

Mix it all together and chill.

Sometimes I use olive oil mayo, but sometimes I use plain, non-fat yogurt to cream-y up my tuna salad. Then I add boiled egg whites, a little mustard, and some dill relish. (not sweet relish!) I like to wrap it in lettuce and eat it that way or eat it on top of fresh spinach leaves.
