This is a must! My health is at stake... Why can I never stay on track? Saying just do it is easier said than done.

Right there with ya, I'll kid myself thinking I'm doing fine but after facing the facts and being honest with myself I realize I could be doing better.0

The big thing is you have to do for YOU. I see a lot of people on here who say "I'm doing this for my kids" or "I'm doing this for my wife" etc.. If you're not doing it for YOU then you will fail every time. As Michelle said, it's hard, but the mindset is the key. You have to develop good habits and then it becomes second nature.
First: Think of this as a lifestyle change. This is behavior you are changing that will be how you live the rest of your life. Second: Never diet. Make healthy choices. Diet means you're depriving yourself. If you eat healthy, or healthier, then you're not depriving yourself.
Just a few little tidbits that have helped me along the way. Feel free to send me a FR if you're looking for more friends!0 -
I've done this a few times, too. But this may be the first time that I've ever really changed my mindset where food and exercise are concerned. More than thinking that I'm in it to lose weight, I've decided that I'm in it to get healthy and to be a better role model to my three young girls. So I'm hoping that this time I will be successful and be able to stick with it. It's been two months, now, for me, and the weight is coming off slower than it has before, but I feel like I'm doing it the right way this time.
Take it one day at a time. I'd love to share the journey with you - add me if you are interested!0 -
Maybe you're just not ready to make the change. Once you are, everything else will fall into place.0

I hear you.
I too am an expert at starting over and over. It's so damn hard. But the people on here are great and very supportive, so hang in there.
And most important, don't judge yourself harshly or get mad and give up if you slip up. I've done that too many times too. Just brush it off and move forward. Be kind to yourself - you are here and trying, and that's the first step.
I promised myself yesterday, when I started over again, that I would give it a serious go for one week, and see what happens. Hay, maybe as a consequence, I might lost a little weight
Just know that you are not alone, and we are all here for the same reason0 -
Sometimes something just clicks and other times you need a powerful motivator. Realizing it is not a diet but a way of life is key. The I can't wait till I am not dieting again so i can have _______, is a sure way to not make the change.0

This is a must! My health is at stake... Why can I never stay on track? Saying just do it is easier said than done.
you need to look at what situations make you give up, and then learn coping mechanisms for them that dont involve food!
it is as simple as 'just do it' if you make it that simple!0 -
Sounds like you've got the starting thing sorted, it's sorting out why you stop that's tough
Common causes
I am unhappy and eat to feel better
I am fed up with being deprived
I'm not getting results quick enough
It's going to take forever to hit my goal and I haven't the energy
I NEEEED cheese
Bored, bored, bored
Maybe all of the above at some point!!
So when you are sliding, recognise it, try to understand it, try to counteract it. It's OK to give yourself a break too just not one that costs you 14lbs!!!
Would be fab if it were this easy huh!! but good luck0 -
Well first off, I attended a seminar for work once in which this guy said "There are only two have to's in life, you have to be born and you have to die. Everything else is a choice." And he was right. For example you don't have to work, but if you don't you have to accept the consequences - no income, no petrol to go anywhere, second-hand clothes, the basics for food, etc. So, you CHOOSE to work.
I've been a yo-yo dieter for years, trying to lose weight because I had high blood pressure; because my risk factor medically was high and I might die in 5 to 10 years. BUT every time I lost weight I put it back on plus. Then one day about 3 years ago I decided that I wanted to be slim and be able to go into shops and choose what I REALLY wanted to wear not just something that was in my size and that was it. It's been a struggle especially just now but I AM going to get there. I found the most valuable thing was to think positively. I may say "if I get there" but every single time I pull myself up and say "WHEN I get there". And the picture I have in my head is of a slimmer me - I hardly see myself as obese any more, although I still have surplus, but in my head I don't see that. Once again I think it's that positive thought pattern that is the key. So I have CHOSEN this path.
I don't go to a gym; I have difficulty running. I enjoy walking and I tend to get busy in the garden (next job is to clean out the garage). We live on one income and it's a struggle at times (same the world over I know). We don't have a vege garden, so lots of veges and good red meat are out of the question for me, so I eat what I always have and what hubby and our son eat except I have less than I used to. I use old fashioned portion control and you can see by my ticker that it's working.
I think you must do this for YOU. It IS possible. GOOD LUCK!!!!0
