Low Cal Peanut Butter?

OK so, my new favorite snack is granny smith apples and peanut butter. I have been exercising a lot lately and eating way more healthy so at the end of the night (around 7:30 or 8) I need a small snack to complete my calories and tide me over. The thing is, I usually have more than enough calories to cover it, but I would like to have some lower calories PB on hand. Any good brands/ideas?

I'd be afraid of all the extra stuff they'd put into it if there was a low cal PB. Nuts are a high calorie food naturally.0

I have never found any it is one of the few food i rarely eat
I guess just moderation!

Try Better N Peanut Butter. It has half the calories of regular peanut butter. It is a little slicker than regular peanut butter - but I have grown to love it more than the regular stuff. It may not be for everyone, but its pretty good.0

Hi - Peanuts are one of those things in my opinion that get a bad rap because although they are high in fat, they are high in the "good" fats. Its important to take a look at what kind of fats you are getting in your PB which are higher in Polyunsaturated and Mono fats. Of course everything should be in moderation but the benefits of 20g of fat in PB are much better than 20g in a burger from mcdonalds.
One of my favorite brands is Smart Balance PB with Omega 3s. Jif also makes the same type of PB with Omegas. Any of the PBs that advertise lower Fat and Sugar are a good bet, important to read the labels and compare how much sodium and sugar you are getting as well .
Good luck0 -
I eat one called naturally more..it's a little less fat & sugar. I usually do 1 T. each day on celery or whatever and especially when I play a round of golf for good long lasting energy. It also has good omega 3s

My husband who is also using MFP and has lost over 17 lbs is a peanut butter junky. Loves it and has to have it, so we went on the lookout for good Peanut butter. Most of the so called healthy ones, have strange things in them like molasses and salt and lord only knows what else. But we did find one that the only ingredient was .... peanuts... shocking isn't it. lol.
It is called KREMA, I don't know if it is available everywhere but when I went to enter it on here it was already listed. It is thinner than normal peanut butter and it seperates since it doesn't have the additives to make it 'creamy'. You have to stir it up everytime you open the jar but man is it yummy. If you can find it, it is worth the purchase and the calories are about the same as the others but without the added junk.
Oh I found they have a website....www.krema.com. (I just realized they are from right here in Columbus, OH)0 -
I dunno, i'd be worried about all the other crap they put into it inorder to save a few scant calories, not really worth it. If the label doesn't have just peanuts on it, I don't eat it....I know what's in it, peanuts and nothing else..:laugh:0

Just to add I do use Once again nut butters. I have the sunflower and Tahini and they are very good. There is a peanut butter made by them too. I keep my nut butters in the fridge to keep them from separating.0

It isn't low cal, but it is super easy to make your own. Roasted peanuts + food processor + a few minutes = Peanut butter with only the ingredients you put in it. A little sea salt, a little honey, whatever you want. I love it just by itself, and it has no added sugars which bulk up the cals really fast. Good luck on your search! :flowerforyou:0

There are some things I will skimp on.......PB is not one of them. Love my Jif! An extra 5-10 min on the treadmill is worth it, if it puts me over!! Or I'll lessen something else.....0

I agree with the others! Go natural when it comes to peanut butter... my family LOVES Justin's organic honey peanut butter. You can find it in most grocery stores in their health food aisles. Delicious! You'll never go back to skippy or jiff again0

As a low fat alternative to Peter Pan (my favorite), I'll make PB2 powdered peanut butter.
PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter
It's what's not in PB2 that makes it so good for you. For starters, our special process removes 85% of the fat calories without the chemicals typically used in producing reduced fat foods. Something else you won't find in PB2 is preservatives. What you will find is natural roasted peanut flavor that's also available in a rich chocolate variety.

I'll give PB2 another thumbs up. I can't have PB in my house. Seriously...just can't control myself around it. Four servings, and 800 calories later, I want to beat my head on the wall. PB2 allows me to have my PB, but without the guilt.
It does contain a small amount of sugar...my one trade-off.
It's yummy on apples, celery, rice cakes and in a protein drink.0 -
i love naturally more and better n butter.
better n butter is the best to be honest.0 -
I use the Teddie Natural PB without salt because it is "sloopy". When it is "sloopy" it is way easier to spread.
I melt a 100 calorie Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate and then mix in 1 tablespoon of sloopy PB ~ like a reeses but way better tasting for slightly less than 200 cals.0 -
I really agree with the comments about everything added in to make it ever so slightly less calorific! I'd say go for organic, no sugar added! I'm an American who's lived in England for seven years now and I can honestly say that I could no more eat Skippy or Jif than fly - even commercial peanut butters here have far less sugar and now the big American brands just taste way too sweet and artificial to me! Once you get used to the real thing you won't go back!0
