Hypo here too! Also gluten-free (and it's really, really made a difference for me), and I LOVE to cook.

Feel free to add me. :)

I have had thyroid problems since I was 14-15 years old... had to drink radioactive iodine to kill it, and been on meds since!

Another Hashimoto here! Mine is completely non functioning. I take 300mcg of Levo M/W/F and 200mcg the rest of the week. :/ Sucks big time. I have been at this since 3/7/13 and have lost 25 lbs. I agree w/the above poster...we have to limit our carbs! Anndd...I'm a carb addict so this has been a challenge. Also, my chiropractor asked me to go gluten free for a while and see if it helped. Sadly, it has made a huge difference. I feel so much better GF. LOL! I did a bit of research and guess what? Ppl w/Hashimoto are 14 times more likely to be gluten intolerant. BOOOO! Actually, any autoimmune disease puts you at high risk for gluten intolerance.

YEP, low carb is the way to go!

I have issues too, currently getting them defined. Have a 6 month check up in a few weeks. I have only lost 1 pound in 90 days even tho I ride around 15 miles a day and stay around 1500 calories a day. It is frustrating to say the least. I'm pretty sure my thyroid is playing a huge factor in this. Monitoring this thread gathering info.

I think they want you to take it first thing in the morning because it's supposed to be on an empty stomach so as long as you haven't eaten in a few hours when you take it you should be good.
I'm Hypo and have no thyroid at all. Been that way since birth. I'm on 150mg Levothyroxine daily. Actually, does anyone know why it should be taken first thing in the morning? Ever since I was a baby I have taken it before bed but I noticed on the packaging the other month that it should be taken AM. Finding it very hard to break that habit!!!

I'm hypo and take 75 mcg Synthroid daily. I take my medication in the middle of the night, because I wake up anyway, and then I don't have to worry about how long to wait to eat, or take my multi (has Iron) or Calcium supplements (both of which can affect the absorption of the medication).

Regarding low carb, I think it's a gross generalization to say that ALL hypos need to go low carb. I've done Atkins and did okay on it, but have actually done much better with IF, eating whatever I want. Low carb is great if you're able to stick with it, but it was too restrictive for me, and I'm glad I found something else that works.

I also went gluten free for a period of time and then tested for sensitivity and (thankfully!) I don't have any issues with wheat or gluten.

Hi there I just found out in Dec2012 that my thyroid is not functioning correctly and I have my 1st specialist appt next month. It is currently under performing. This is on top of the diabetic diagnosis also in Dec2012. Then I follwed that up with a Massive Heart Attack in Feb2013. Not to good for a 37yr old.

I was hyperthyroid and unable to do much without my heart racing like crazy. Tried medication, but then finally last December had radiated iodine treatment. In April, my thyroid levels were finally normal. I have been able to start jogging and can go further than I ever have before (in my life ever!).
Sorry, thyroid, but you were just out of control. :)
Even though I can exercise regularly now (5 days a week for 30-60 minutes), I don't lose much weight. But I am going to keep going because exercise makes me feel energized now instead of wiped out.

I take detoxified iodine supplements & it has totally changed my life! I have hypothyroidism and the detoxified iodine has stabilized my levels as well. :-) Weight loss finally became possible through healthy eating & exercise. I get my supply through a local Herb & Nutrients shop, but you can get it online too: iodinesource.com/Products.php

I have Hashimoto's, had Isthmus of thyroid removed 1 1/2 years ago.
    Take synthroid.
Be sure to visit thyroid topics. Lots of us post there.

Should have said Group Forums on Hypothyroidism & Hyperthyroidism instead of thyroid topics...

It's based on the fact that your stomach should be empty, and it's easiest then to take it first thing in the morning. If you take it at night it should be at least 3 hours after a meal, more if possible :)

I've had Hashimotos since age 11 [10 years now!] been on 125mg levothyroxine basically since the beginning.
I've recently been looking into holisitc care as I still feel totally fatigued and struggle to lose weight.
I plan on seeing a naturopath this summer! <3
I'm also Vegan and do not eat Gluten or Soy.
My diet has helped incredibly compared to when I was in high school and I ate whatever I wanted.
    Feel free to add me!

My thyroid decided to take a break and checked out some time ago.
I didn't know and found out strictly by accident and now I'm on something but I can't remember what it is.
75mg's of something which I thought started with a T. I haven't seen any major benefits of being on the medicine but it hasn't been that long.
