Hi I'm 5'10 and I have been wavering on my goal weight. I would like to ideally get to 165 lbs but a lot of people have said this is too low for my height and I should stop about 175-180. What do you think?

I think you will know when you get there. I am also 5'10" and I have been as low as 135 - which is too low. It didn't look good. However, my goal is 150 (just about there) and I am most happy at that weight. That puts me in a size 6 and sometimes 8 very comfortably.
You need to focus more on how you feel and how your clothes fit. My 150 might not be the same as yours because of muscle mass and things like that.0 -
Yup - 150 will look different on different people, even if height is the same! I would love to get down to 160.0

Hey! I am 5'9 and my goal is 150. I have been told may different things about what my weight should be. Everything from 175 to 145. Ultimately though my goal is to be happy with the way I look and feel, not the number.0

I am 5'11" and I think my ultimate goal will be somewhere around 170-175. I was 185 for a while 10 years ago (so 7 pounds less than what I weigh now) and I was OK with that weight, but I know I would feel better losing a little more than that.
Like PPs said, it really depends on you and where you feel comfortable.0 -
I'm 5'11" and I'm shooting for 175. A friend of mine who is a nurse/nutritionist set that # for me based on my height and frame, which she stressed is a big factor in finding a healthy weight. If you're lighter boned, you will probably be healthy at 160. If you're like me and have wrist bones the size of most people's calves, you might want to go a little heavier.
PS- Tall girls ROCK!0 -
I am 5' 10" and my goal weight is 170-180. I would be ecstatic :bigsmile:0

LOL. I dream of ONEderland!0 -
I am 5'10" and i am shooting for 175-180 I will love to be under 200 its been a long time I also am considered big boned so that is why i have chosen that weight0

I'm 5'11 and aiming for 170 as an original goal weight, but my ultimate goal weight is as yet undecided. I want to see what I look and feel like at that weight, and will likely be looking to go down a few more from there.0

I'm 5'10. Goal is 173. Got there once before, loved it, then got lazy. Want to get there again and stay there.0
-
I'm 5'10" and want to get to 170. Actually, would love to get to 150 just to see what it looks like, but I'll settle for 170! LOL0

I'm 5'10" and started at 182lbs. I am down to 165lbs currently, but my goal is 140-145lbs. According to "www.caloriescount.com", a healthy weight range is 132-173lbs. I have been athletic my entire life (until the past couple of years, hence the weight gain), so I didn't wear 180 well at all. Good luck!!0

I am 5'10" and currently around 175. Still have way too much body fat - but I have a small frame. I am shooting for 150-155.0
-
I'm 5'11 - I'm thinking 155 will be perfect but we shall see as I get closer. Im in ONEderland as of yesterday!0
-
My goal is 145lbs. I'm around 150 now. Like a previous poster, years ago I was in the 130's and I was WAY too thin. For my frame, I prefer the 140's.0
-
I'm 5'11 and got down to 145, where I was a size 4. I worked my way back up to 153 over the winter and I think I'm too big now. Haven't got back on the wagon yet, but I was more comfortable at 147 than anything.
You'll know when you get there. I was aiming for 160 from 190, but when I got to 160 I knew I could do better.0 -
I'm 5' 10.5. Goal weight is 145 but I'm throwing myself a parade if I can make it to 150. :drinker:0
-
I'm currently at 148 and happy with my body! 145 would be great but I am not actively trying to lose any more, just continuing exercise and eating around maintenance (or more... oops ) in the end its how you feel, as long as you are healthy, the number isn't important. Good luck0

I would love to get down to 150. The last time I was close to there was when I was 16.0

If theres one thing I've learned on here is chasing a number will frustrate you. I know this first hand from my beautiful wife. She started on MFP first and did the "I want to be 140". Truth is she was more in love with what she "thought" 140 should look like. It easy to try imagine yourself in the mirror missing the 5, 10, 15 lbs turning sideways and thinking "that would look real good on me". But thats because your visualizing and instant loss. Like other posters above me have mentioned weight looks different on people. My wife started rocking it out then found a group of people that led her from straight cardio to incorporate weight training. But the dreaded lifting will make you "heavier" and "Bulky" and thats a psychological can't do for some people. She stayed steady lifting light weights (I joined in) and hasn't hit the 140 but has lost fat gained muscle and went to a size 4 and I think maybe a size 2 in other brands of jeans.
The biggest speedbump is when you first start out, you'll lose weight and that processes as success, thats proof that your hard work is paying off. You get addicted standing on the scale everymorning seeing 1lb gone. But eventually youll start to level off by gaining muscle while losing fat at the same time which can make your numbers stall, and then you'll end up with a post "why am I not losing weight? I'm busting my butt" This very exact thing happened to me and my wife she wanted that number so bad but then stalled and freaked out, as did I a couple of weeks after her. So the scale started mentally sabotaging our workouts making the urge to quit start to enter our minds. The only thing that really saved us is before she started she did body measurments and after a week of stalled at a undesired number she got the tape out and saw how many inches she had lost and could now fit in a new line of clothes which was her origional goal setting.
So just take good measurments, especially in the areas that you want to see go away. Work it like a champ and when you hit the levelling off point take those measurments again and that will be your new visual aid to your hard work.0 -
My goal weight is 160. I've been told I should weigh 135 as well but I don't think I'd be comfortable with myself that small. My mom weighs 135 and she's petite. As long as you are comfortable and healthy at your goal weight that's all that matters.0

I aam 5'8 and feel the most comfortable at about 145, however 150-155 is doable, as well!0

I'm 5'9 and my goal weight is 160.0

I'm 5'9 and 180/175 is actually where I started.
I currently weigh 153, and am trying to get back to 150.. maybe even a little lower, like 140.0 -
I'm a bit over 5'11'' and right now at about 172. My goal weight is 155...but that may not happen. I'd take 159-162...that would put me at about a size 6 or 8. :bigsmile:0
