It is sooo amazing. Get yoga mat, but I found that the square puzzle foam pieces are cheaper and easier to workout with, resistance bands, indoor running shoes (even the cheapest kind because its better to have shoes than to do it barefoot) and weights.

I'm shocked by the simplicity of that! I'm about to order Insanity and I've been worried about sweat getting into my carpet and now I have a solution!!

To the OP, I can relate with the uncertainty of getting such a high intensity workout without already being in amazing shape but, like you, I'm just going to go for it! I think as long as you stick with it and don't get discouraged you should be okay. Good luck!!

I am on day 81 of P90X. I started out very over-weight at 250lbs and extremely out of shape. But I stuck with it, modifying the intensity when I couldn't keep up with the very fit people on the videos. I'm currently down to 217lbs, and with only 9 days left, i'm already planning another round once I finish. I would recommend a heart rate monitor for the cardio routines. You'll want dumbbells or bands, a pull up bar, and a yoga mat. Stick with it everyday and you WILL see results!
