Chinese food help!

Boyfriend and I are ordering Chinese for dinner and I need some help! I am considering one of two things, either a pint of moo goo gai pan with white rice or chicken chow fun. When doing research I found that the internet says moo goo gai pan, which is chicken and vegetables in a light chicken broth/sauce, is nearly twice the calories and way more fat that chicken chow fun, which is a bunch of (admittedly greasy) noodles, chicken, and far fewer vegetables. How is this possible? What do I do?!

Chinese food is a tough one for me too!

You can try to have them alter stuff for you.... no or light sauce, steamed veggies, etc. OR... just order what you like and eat a reasonable portion. Have a salad or steamed veggies to help fill you up, avoid fried stuff and the really sweet items.

Check this site out for nutritional info on moo goo gai pan http://www.formulamedical.com/fORMULA FOR LIFE/DietPlan/403030/Recipe/MooGooGaiPan/moogoo1.HTM

And this one for the other meal:

From what I found... Moo Goo wins by a long shot!!!!!!

Most chinese places have a "healthy" section on the menu. Can you see if they have steamed veggies and chicken with no sauce? That's what I'd get if I was ordering.

I mean this in the nicest possible way but if you were going to get steamed veg and chicken with no sauce... why would you bother going to get chinese at all?

I think the clear soup sounds like a good choice :) Other good choices would be meat and veg stirfries (but make sure the meat isn't coming battered and deep fried), boiled rice, steamed dim sims, braised fish... just a few thoughts. Enjoy!! :flowerforyou:

LOL this is true I suppose. Just something I'd do if my husband wanted chinese and I still wanted to be as healthy and low cal as possible. If she's splurging...then go for something more sinful!

I was horrified after ordering the moo goo and finding out the calories a couple days later. XD Usually the chinese places have pretty healthy choices. When I order from the one here, I usually get the steamed veggies and chicken. Its very good and they give me the sauce on the side so if I want the taste I can just dip it a little instead of having my food drenched in it. :)
