I've been on the Patino diet for 3 weeks and dropped 10 pounds! But more importantly my energy levels are at an all time high! Is byfar the best diet plan for me and I'm sticking with Iit because it tastes great and it feels good and it works. Check out patinodiet.com and let me know if I can be of any help, best of luck to you.0

I am currently training for jiujitsu world championships and I use patino diet. Best diet ever done with training. I've lost 27 lbs in like 6 weeks. Highly recommend it.

Just pointing out that both "success stories" are first time posters, and one account was just created. Makes me think this isn't a great plan.0

I haven't done too much research into it. I just looked at the website but it appears to be just another Low GI diet.
The only problem that I have with these is that they tend to eliminate certain foods under the presumption that Low GI improves satiety. For me personally I haven't found that to be the case.
All in all if it's something that you think that you can do for the rest of your life I say go for it.
If it's something you can do for 8 weeks I would suggest something more sustainable.0 -

In the end, it's all about calories. Low GI diets do not provide any greater fat loss than High GI foods. It still takes 3500 calories less than your burn to lose a lb of fat. And with only 13 lbs, you can only hope to lose 1/2 - 1 lb of fat per week. Ideally, just eat a small deficit, weight train, a little cardio and give it time.0 -

And the other is the first ever post from an account created 5 years ago.
Seems legit.
On topic: I've never heard of this diet...but to answer the question, yes, I suspect at least one MFPer is on it.0 -

while that's true it takes the same number of calories to lose a pound, low GI and eating healthy, natural foods over processed or fried foods is for overall health as well. Low GI foods won't spike your blood sugar like high GI foods, which will help avoid a sugar crash later. Keeping steady blood sugar is good for health and energy levels.0 -
I'd never heard of it, but just looked it up. It's a lot like paleo/primal, which is how I eat. I need low GI foods because otherwise I am literally eating all day long. It's all about natural, whole foods. I say go for it.0

sounds interesting! great find.0

Let me guess you only eat low GI foods so high GI foods are out of bounds which would mean cutting out a whole load of calorie dense foods like ice creams, chocolate sweets, pies, chips/fries, pizza etc.
<sarcasm> gee, what a novel approach to weight loss, I must go and make somebody richer an buy the book straight away because I would never have guessed that eating fewer doughnuts and replacing them with green beans would help me lose weight. </sarcasm>0 -

Unless you are diabetic, your body has the ability to adjust it's own blood sugar shortly after eating. Eating low GI is not any better for you than high GI foods. Potatoes or watermelon are perfect examples of high GI foods that are extremely healthy for you. There is no scientific evidences that would suggest low GI is any more healthy for you, especially if you are not diabetic.0 -

This again? I feel like I'm wasting my time but,Simple carbohydrates are simple sugars with a chemical structure that is composed of one or two sugars. They are refined sugars that have very little nutritional value to the body, and therefore, it's advisable that their consumption be limited to small quantities. In comparison to complex carbohydrates, simple carbohydrates are digested by the body more quickly, because they have a very simple chemical structure... Despite the fact that simple carbohydrates do not contain enough essential nutrients, some foodstuffs such as fruits may still be good for you.
Complex carbohydrates consist of a chemical structure that is made up of three or more sugars, which are usually linked together to form a chain. These sugars are mostly rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Due to their complexity, they take a little longer to digest, and they don't raise the sugar levels in the blood as quickly as simple carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates act as the body's fuel, and they contribute significantly to energy production.
Complex carbohydrates have a higher nutritional value than simple carbohydrates. It may be confusing to differentiate simple and complex carbohydrates due to the fact that complex ones contain certain elements of simple ones. Nevertheless, differentiating the two should not be a problem since their chemical structures are very different, and therefore, they can be distinguished by their nutritional properties. The consumption of simple carbohydrates is not recommended, especially for diabetics.0 -
I don't alot but I will say this....... In my humble opinion......The Patino Diet is the best way of eating I have ever done.....My daughter looked into this diet and pre ordered the book....It has been a God send in this house. Not only can you eat healthy but has been the perfect food plan for myself my diabetic husband and my 21 yr old daughter who suffers with PCOS.....If anyone really wants to change their lifestyle they certainly can. I am 58 yrs old now and I wish I had eaten like this my whole life!
I for one love the Patino diet and can honestly say could live this way forever!0 -
Thanks! I just ordered the book and from what I read about it this is something I think I can follow. So going to give it a try. My husband is diabetic too so this should help him as well. I just need to keep trying until I get to my goal. No one said it was easy.0

First post for me, ehich means I'm a troll, sorry for responding to the question. Just didnt have anything to say before. Won't make the mistake of sharing what works for me again.0

Don't let anyone take away from what you want to say! Many people will be encouraged from your personal experiences!
I've learned that some people are the diet police so I just skip what they have to say...
This is a fantasticsite !! You can find like minded people ( add me if you want) maybe we can get a Patino Group going0 -
The Patino DIet is amazing if you think about what he is telling you is to avoid what we all know is bad high glycemia foods doesnt mean you cant ever eat them but to use them as "cheats" Anyone that wants to hate on this diet which actually teaches you how to eat are the ones that follow the pathetic body by vi or beach body that teaches you taking a miracle pil or shake is the way to go. I am an MMA fighter and a Gym rat I follow this to a point not to a T but i use it as a crutch to my diet and I went from having the post pregnancy body less than 6 months ago to being back into a size 0 with good diet and exercise eat good lean protiens monitor your fats, carbs and sugars and you should do great0

...for this amazing "first post" magnet of a thread.0 -
I actually wait on Dr. Patino at the restaurant I work at, very nice and humble man! He does practice what he preaches also! I've been wanting to get a copy of his book, let us know how it works out!0

(This thread is absolutely amazing.)
After over two years on MFP, having added ONE friend in that time...(who also coincidentally has only ONE on her FL)...and having stayed out of the forums until now, the thread that brought you to make your first ever forum post is this one???
I am truly baffled by the phenomenon that is this thread. I have never seen this before and can't begin to understand how this is happening. The most plausible explanation I can think of is similar to fake reviews for a product...where someone creates fictitious accounts to post praises of a product...but most of these first-time-posters are accounts that were created years ago. That would be a remarkably long con. Alternatively, I guess someone could be guessing passwords of old, dormant accounts, but again, that's a lot of work for what I would expect to be very little exposure.
Anyhow, not accusing anyone of doing this...but I am truly baffled by the phenomenon that is this thread. It really is fascinating (at least to me).
(And now, off to search for reviews of this book to see if similar things are happening on other sites...)0 -
WOW! I SIMPLY *MUST* LOOK UP THIS AMAZING DIET. Dr. Patino must be a wonderful, god-like nutrition deity.0

At the very least...
...he is Medical Doctor.
ETA: It even says so on his website:Trust the diet from Medical Doctor that practices what he preaches, with the body to show for it!0 -

I googled his diet to check out reviews and This thread popped up, so being a member of MFP and also knowing Dr.Patino made me comment on this post. I don't go on these treads and comment on them simply because I use MFP for my own personal use. No offense but I don't come on here to encourage others when I have my own issues. So if you're implying that I am a fake account, I am not.0 -
I've heard of it, and will most likely purchase his book. Apparently it is a staple in quite a few professional mma fighters diets. I try to eat fairly healthy for the most part, and will use this book for additional information to supplement my diet. Another staple in mma is the dolce diet. I don't think it's based on GI but also advocates eating healthy, whole foods.0
