Arrrgggghh!

I Started the 30 day shred mid-April. I added to it 6 week abs workout plus 35-40 min of cardio 5-6 days a week. That is 1.25-2.0 hours of exercise a day. I have cut down my sugar and carbs, increased my protein and been working hard to eat enough calories. At the beginning of this week I was happy to have lost 4 pounds. Today, I weigh in heavier than I did when I started!
I am so frustrated!

arrrggggghhh! hormones? water weight? how about measurements?
for what it's worth, know the scale can be a disappointment - you likely know muscle mass weighs more than fat (tho a # is a # the world round)
focus on your life long health journey and know that you are FABULOUS and that you have reduced your risk for several health conditions0 -
It sounds like you might be overexercising to me. Are you logging all that exercise and eating the extra calories you earn?0

If you lost a pound of fat and gained a pound and a half of muscle, the scale says you are heavier. But, in the long run, you are better for it. Don't let the scale be the only measurement of success. Be proud of the exercise you are able to do and eventually things will even out where they need to.0

^ This... although I also feel like if you are eating enough for your body to maintain this and aren't causing any injuries, why not? But to be working out this much you can't be cutting any corners food wise and need to make sure you are following a good diet and regime!
If you aren't eating at a deficit, it could be muscle gain rather than fat gain? But this is only the case if you aren't creating a deficit.
Are you using MFP method or TDEE method for your daily calorie guidance?0 -
First thing you need to do is step away from the scale. Weigh yourself once a week. The loss of 4 pounds is great. You stated that you are exercising 1.25-2 hrs a day. As your body is adjusting to all this exercising the muscles fibers are breaking down and as they are doing that they can retain water. You can exercise everyday but I would suggest no longer than an hour to give your body time to rebuild and recover. The body needs time to repair and with all of your workouts your not giving your body time to recover. Are you doing any type of stretching? Are you getting enough sleep? These are all important factors to consider. The way I gauge my progress is by measurements, before/after photos and how I am feeling. Make sure you log what your are eating. Clean diet, water, stay away from processed foods which include artificial sweeteners, etc. Log all of your food intake and calorie deficit. If your not seeing any progress then it's time to reevaluate what you're doing whether it's the workouts or diet. Most of the time when people aren't getting the results they want the culprit is nutrition. I know you stated what you were doing, but what types of food are you eating? Good luck and keep up what you are doing. Remember it's not a diet but a healthy lifestyle change.

How quickly life can change. Yesterday my husband decided to bring out his inner 10 year old and ended up in the ER with a blow to the chest which caused some scary symptoms. He is fine, but it really helped me to regain perspective. I will keep on my plan, be thankful that I am able to workout, and try to enjoy the simple things a bit more.
Have a healthy day, and unless you are 10, stay off your bicycle the snow!0 -
Hope everything is alright! It is so true that if we all had some perspective and common sense we wouldn't dwell on perceived problems as much as we do:)0
