I'm nervous! Sunday I will be co-cooking an Itailian feast for my Aunt's 40th birthday. We are making Chicken Cacciatore, spinach and Artichoke Dip, Fresh Mozzeralla Salad, Itailian Egg Noodles with homemade sauce, and scratch made choclate almond cake. Most of the recipes are adaptations from cook books. We have changed as much as possible to make it healthier, but I'm still scared I may put away much more than 1,400 calories. SO much pressure when eating with family, even more so when you are the cook and the constant tasting begins to add up. Is there any hope? I am in desperate need of some serious will power.

The advantage of being the cook is you know the calorie count in advance! :)

Plan out what you are going to eat for that meal (and for the day), add in a salad to the menu plan, and that should help quite a bit!

(oops... just saw you had Fresh Mozarella Salad -- yum! -- on the menu)

    That menu sounds SO good!

Haha, my husband's family is Italian and every Sunday means a food orgy at my MIL's house! My advice to you is, if this is a special occasion then don't sweat it. Eat REASONABLE sized portions of what you like, keeping in mind how hard you have worked but don't deprive yourself of something that you absolutely have to have. After all it's just one day and in the grand sceme of things it won't matter....as long as you don't frequently find excuses for that "it's just one day" thing! You should be looking at this as a lifestyle change to stop overeating when you are already satiated but continue to eat anyway long after you are actually full. And if you fal off the wagon, then just get up early the next morning and work out extra hard :).
  • I feel your pain - I am from Maltese family, and family feasts can be a nightmare. xonophone is right, eat reasonable size portions and remember its only one day.

Just jump on the treadmill that night and walk it away, drink loads of water and you shouldnt feel toooooo bad afterwards.

But of course, enjoy yourself :-)
