tips to stop eating too much at night

Anyone have any tips to help stop eating so much at night? I wind up eating well the whole day and then eating chips or something bad late at night like 9 or 10. any advice on tricks to stop myself from doing this would be much appreciated

drink a large glass of water about 845p and keep drinking water instead of eating.0

Go to sleep
brush your teeth
gargle with some mouth wash (trust me you will not want to eat after that lol)
chew gum
drink water

Maybe eat a larger meal a bit later on, when u eating your last meal? I have to go to bed sometimes I get so hungry, also a victim to the slouched on the sofa watching tv hunger monster.0

If you know it's going to happen, hold back some calories from your day to allow for this. And try and go for healthy or low fat options.0

at that point, you gotta get to bed. know your triggers, keep the food AWAY from your face, and brush your teeth/shower to avoid it. go right to bed. three weeks of beating the cravings will break the habit, guaranteed. just stick with it.
if that doesnt work, post a STOP EATING AFTER 7PM sign on your fridge if you have to...or put a sticky note on your bag of chips that says `future summer me is going to be so disappointed she cant wear a bikini without feeling insecure` or `youre gonna regret this later!`
sounds awful, but its true. scare-tactic yourself away from it.0 -
I second the brushing teeth thing... that's really helped me with late night snacking.0

Brush your teeth and click the "complete your entries for this day" button on MFP. The latter might not work for everyone, but I feel like I'm being dishonest with myself if I click that button and then go nosh on more food.
That said, eating at a particular time isn't especially bad for your diet goals, unless you know that eating at certain times makes you more likely to choose foods that don't fit well in your macros or caloric goals.0 -
i like to have a big dinner to help me feel more full. also, if you drink at night, having two many can make you hungrier.
have smaller (less quantity) meals during the day, to save up calories at night.0 -
Thanks so much! Yeah I think I need to have a sit down dinner at like 6 or 7 and then stop for the night. I usually wind up eating dinner/lunch around 3 and then try not to eat dinner and then get too hungry at like 10. Also the brushing teeth and mouthwash idea sounds like a good plan. will try it out tonight!0

I floss early in the evening. I hate flossing, so I will give up snacking to avoid flossing again.0

do you work at night, or just like to eat at night? If you have to eat at night, just try to switch to something healthy. Yogurt, granola bar, etc.0

How about just a healthier snack? Make a veggie platter to have something to munch on. If you planned a healthier snack and have it out. Chances of going to the chips are a lot less.
Personally, I workout after 8 pm. So I have a hard time sleeping. I started to have just a snack with my daughter at supper (also I hate working out with too much food in my belly) and plan for a bigger meal after my workout and a bath. Seems to really help me sleep better. I'm stilling seeing results with eating after 8. You just need to find a system that works for you.0 -
I either brush my teeth or have a heallthy snack. I find celery or raw carrots the best because they're crunchy like crisps so more satisfying.0

If I didn't eat after 3 I'd probably end up chewing my arm off, my fav meal is about 5/6 ish and I make it the largest one with carbs to fill me.0

I eat 5 small meals every 2-3 hours through out the day and this has helped with late night snacking because I am not hungry at all!0

I prefer to eat in the evenings so I eat only about 400 cals up until dinner and have the rest in the evenings. It's what suits me and ive had no problem losing weight.0

I chew the gum that tastes like dessert... Works for me0

Night is me weak time! I have started drinking a meal replacement shake at night after the kids go to bed. Its chocolate and yummy and fills me up and keeps me from eating all the junk I used to eat. It is working for me. Plus its good for me so that's an added bonus.0

I save 300 cals for bedtime snacking. 94% FF popcorn works for me. You can eat a LOT for under 2-300 cals.
I've eaten so much popcorn, oatmeal & egg whites on this diet to last me a lifetime. But yea try switching it up with fruit etc.
Ps - I know it doesn't sound like it but most of what I eat is very healthy. I believe in balance & moderation. I think it's called the 80/20 rule. If you eat right 80% of the time, you can eat bad 20% of the time. But you still have to stay within your cal's.

Popcorn you can eat alot and its not that many calories (if you get the right kind!). Also water or tea. When I need some kind of 'flavor' for the night because Im scared Ill eat then Ill do a yummy tea instead of water. Zero calories and you can still feel like you are getting some kind of dessert (sort of).0

As long as you aren't going over your calories, snack away at night.
If it is taking you over your calories, drink a large (16oz or more) glass of water around 7-8pm...it will help take the edge off.0 -

My Kids and Husband do that all the time,snacking at nights...I just have to think about what I really want to look for summer and let them be...It sucks but It's just willpower0 -
I made a rule that I wasn't going to eat after 9 pm, and I usually do that, unless I had a late night and didn't get dinner yet. Typically, I do dinner between 5:30 and 6:30. I almost always save the cals to have some sort of snack after that, but I really needed the stop time on eating, or I'd snack all night. If 9 rolls around and I am still hungry, I make sure I drank enough water, if not I do that. Or, I have some green tea with stevia. (0 cals) The tea is surprisingly warm and filling. A friend of mine who is also watching her weight says she'll drink around 7 cups on a good day!0

As long as you stay within your calorie allowance it doesn't matter what time you eat. if you're using up your allowance and then snacking later, you need to adjust your intake to allow for this.0

If you like eating later in the day, save more calories for later in the day! This is what I do, and it makes me happy! There is no reason NOT to eat late or cut off eating at a certain time, unless you have stomach issues.
I don't even eat breakfast any more...just coffee.0 -
Try eating a grapefruit !! Its full of juice and leaved you feeling completely full and its sweet , if you're craving sweets at night.0

Drink lots of water.
Also, save yourself 100-150 calories after your dinner if possible for a late night snack. I usually have mine about 9pm-ish and it's usually a few squares of dark chocolate or a piece of fruit. That sees me through until the following day.0
