B complex vitamins

I just bought some B complex vitamins because I have issues with feeling energized and I'm feeling lethargic all day no matter what I do. Has anyone else tried B complex vitamins? Did they work?

Please don't just tell me to get more sleep or eat better/different, I just want to know if this will help me wake up.

Yes I think they can be helpful for mood and energy...one TMI thing I feel the need to tell you...it makes your urine tennis ball yellow. so when that happens, don't be alarmed. :drinker:

Ha ha, yes they do and your pee kind of smells funny too  I take a B100 complex for anxiety and they do help give me a bit of energy too. I do find they cause nausea if I haven't taken them for awhile. It goes away after taking them steady for a week but if I miss a couple days, I get really sick feeling about 15 minutes after taking one. Try half a dose for the first week and take them with food if you get nauseous. A B50 complex should be strong enough to start with, then try a B100 if you feel you need more.

Yes. I recently started taking B vitamins and I feel happier which gives me more energy.
  • Thank you so much for responding! And bright pee would be pretty cool.

They should help with energy if you are deficient in B vitamins. Maybe get a test done by a doctor (blood test to check your vitamin and mineral levels). Iron could cause you to be tired as well (and low iron is very common for women).

I take a B vitamin once a week just because I sometimes don't get enough from my diet alone.

I had a problem absorbing B vitamins and did better with a sublingual tablet that dissolved under my tongue.

    Hope you feel better!

I tend to get B deficient, so I take a B Complex that is a liquid sublingual (drops under the tongue) and I do feel like it gives me more energy. I take it after lunch, and really think it does help with the afternoon sleepies. Best of luck to you!

Right along with everyone else, yup, B complex gives you more energy. My doc has me on it, along with iron. I feel so much better on it, especially now that i'm walking each day and getting in the fresh air. :)

B will give you energy .. but if you still feel very slugglish, have a complete blood panel run by your doctor. Its possible you may be lacking a different Vitamin! Lack Of Vitamin D will also cause you to become very fatigued! I have to take a Rx for Vitamin D (and that will also cause you to feel a little less than happy if you are lacking that vitamin!)

    Good luck to you!

*note* If you arent already doing it.. EXERCISE! That brings out the natural HAPPY & ENERGY hormones! Its a true story! =)

If you are deficient in B vitamins, your B complex vitamins will work wonders. B vitamins help a lot with your stress response (not just emotional stress, but also metabolic and physiological stress, like dieting or not getting enough sleep or whatever). They can help some with energy, but they won't fix it if you have some other underlying cause of lethargy, like dehydration or anemia which are also pretty common.

Many many people are deficient in Vitamin B... but signs of severe deficiency include: losing more hair in the shower than you think is normal, and racing thoughts at bedtime (like when you're trying to sleep but can't get your brain to relax and slow down.

Vitamin Bs are hard to absorb, so they pack tons more into a tablet or capsule trusting that you'll get as much as your body needs. The undigested/unabsorbed Vitamin B turns your pee fluorescent yellow. But no need to worry, there's no level of toxicity or anything.

Hope some of this info helps! I'm a huge fan of Vitamin B, and always take a good quality B complex on days when I don't get enough sleep or if work is particularly stressful.
  • Thank you everyone for all of the info! I've definitely been avoiding the doctor, but I guess I should man up and go. Maybe I'll return the vitamins and wait. I took the one-a-day that also had iron and those worked.

I need my B vitamin daily or I feel terrible. It's best to drink a little more water than usual if you do take it.

I just drink monster. It's filled with B vitamins. The absolute zero (tastes kinda crappy), ultra zero (so bomb), and the ultra blue (tastes like blueberries, not bad) are all zero calorie.
