I workout a lot. I do step aerobics, kick boxing, kettle bells, cardio intervals and strength training classes at the Y every week. I started running in their Learn to Run program (basically c25k) 4 weeks ago but am ahead. I was able to run 1k without stopping 2 weeks ago and basically made that my interval training. On tuesday I just ran to see how far I can go without stopping and I made 2.3 K. Today I did the same thing and was able to do 4.5 K this morning. It was so beautiful out I went tonight to do interval training but instead was able to run 5 k without stopping (huge victory). I am not totally consistent in finding my stride yet but when I do it's awesome.

Now that I can run 5k without stopping should I try to run farther or run faster? I did 5k in 30 minutes which is ok for a beginner I suppose. Should I try to work my way up to 10k?

My first 5k race is June 2nd so things are looking good for me to be able to complete it successfully :)

    I think that's great!
Depending on your goals, you could do either faster or farther.

Awesome! Yep, a lot depends on your goals. What do you WANT to do?

Running a 10 min mile is not going to be last--trust me! You'll do fine. You will find that as you run longer/farther, your 5K time will come down so you will really get the best of both worlds if you add distance! Good luck!

honestly, for your first race you should not be worried about your time or finishing last-just finish-run YOUR race. Then you have something to improve upon and make realistic goals for yourself.

Oh, I'm not worried about my time and it will be a huge victory to finish as I was previously a non runner. Even in school I was the kid who could only run maybe half a lap on the outside track in gym class. I just don't want to finish last LOL
