a power rack is something id look to invest in. if you have some type of fitness equipment store around you, go in and see what kind of deal you can get. Typically, they will give you the rack, weights, barbell, and a bench or some combination of these.
Craigslist is also an option, there are always people selling weights on there.
Craiglist I'd agree with for sure! Plenty of people letting iron go for .50/lb or cheaper.
Getting all the stuff you're talking about is anything but cheap though (maybe not AS expensive 2nd hand). My power cage was one of the cheapest I could find and it was around 400 bucks.0 -
I would recommend checking out this channel:

She has great exercises and most of them don't require equipment0 -
Cross Fit is easy to do at home...you just have to get creative on how you do some of the functional exercises...they have tons of ideas for home gyms on their website.
Kettlebells are amazing, and so are elastic resistance bands. Sandbags really work and are cheap as well.0 -
Great thread. Book marked.0

@ OP's topic question, yes!
If you don't participate in a a gym then all you will ever need is dumbbells and some space... I know this because all my workouts are done at home albeit in a small space but still doable if organised correctly....
Regarding what you should do first well that's is up to you and dependent on if you are willing to invest in some dumbbells straight off or later on... You can go a long way just doing body weight exercises which are challenging to say the least for beginners who has never lifted.
Good luck! :flowerforyou:0 -
