Struggling with water....

Hi now that the colder weather has come I am having trouble drinking my 8 glasses a day. Does anyone else have this problem and any ideas on what to do???

Lemon water, warm lemon water, or have with a splash of juice, or make it a cup of green tea instead. You can always get decaf if you want to avoid the caffeine. Also, on days where I just space out on my fluids, I set a timer. Each hour I make it a point to drink one 8oz glass of water. I find that it takes me 8 gulps to drink 8 oz. That keeps me from having to really measure.

Years ago, I switched from never drinking water to almost exclusively drinking water. Some things that have helped me:

    1. I use a straw whenever I am drinking out of a glass. (Colorful bendy straws are preferable.)
    2. I make silly goals like "Before I get to [wherever I'm going], I have to finish this bottle of water."
    3. If I've been slacking on water, I drink a glass before any other beverage and/or before I allow myself to eat a snack or meal.
    4. I don't use purses that are too small to hold a bottle of water.
    5. I keep bottles of water in the fridge so they are nice and cold and I can just grab one and go.
    6. There is always a glass of water--with a straw, of course--on my kitchen counter. I take a sip pretty much whenever I pass it, and have it nearby when I'm cooking.

    Good luck.

Where do you live that it's getting colder in May? I keep a 2.2 litre bottle of water on my desk every day, and it has to be gone by the time my shift is over. Works for me!

I understand that water can get boring. I will add lemons and limes or fruit in ice cubes. I keep a 16 ounce bottle with a straw on my desk and I finish the bottle every 2 hours and then fill it up again until I go home. Then I just have water with dinner and water after dinner. There were times when I never drank water and I hated that.. I also pee a lot because of it and I feel better with that schedule.

I also had that problem! What helps me is to put about 3 slices off a cucumber into a picture of water. I will also put lemon slices into it also. This gives some flavor to it and actually tastes good!

I carry around a gallon jug with me everywhere. I have always drank over a gallon a day, especially being in the military and staying hydrated.

Never had a problem drinking water, but you might also want to dry a puree of strawberries or other fruit you like. Put it into a gallon jug and then fill up your water bottle. It will keep the taste fresh all day (as long as you keep it kinda cooled).

Just be careful with the lemon water as to much can hurt your teeth and the "flavor" added products are most of the time artificially flavored and contain other "non" natural ingrediants.

    hope that helps.

I drink 120oz a day! It was a huge adjustment for me at the beginning. I worked up to it gradually. Now I drink 30oz of water beofre I leave the house in the AM. That way I know I onnly need 2 or 3 30oz bottles of it through out the rest of the day. Hope this helps!

Coffee and tea are both made predominantly of water and are nice on a cold day

When it's cold out; drink hot or warmed water with a little flavor in it (like cinnamon or ginger which are both "warming" herbs)

LOL, I was thinking she lived in Australia or something.

But to the OP, sometimes I guzzle a half gallon down at a time and pretend I'm Superman as I do it because Superman can drink the ocean.

Yes, I really do use that mental trick. :3

Just look at your pee. Is it light yellow to clear? Then you're getting enough water. Forcing yourself to drink an arbitrary amount beyond that is not necessary.

^This. Also, fortunately you can get your water intake through drinking a variety of drinks. It doesn't have to just be plain water. I drink tea, coffee, milk, hazelnut milk, fruit and herbal teas as well as plain water. I also eat quite a lot of soup which helps too. I don't really drink sodas or cordials, they're not really my thing, but if I did - they'd be hydrating me too!

    ^^^ this

I have no idea why the recommendations are for the same amount of water for everyone regardless of circumstances.... you must adjust your water intake to the amount you're sweating, i.e. more if it's hot and more if you're exercising

I live in Bahrain, it's very hot and humid right now, I need a lot more than 8 cups of water a day to stay hydrated... 8 cups a day here is dehydration levels. And similarly, after living in the Arabian Gulf region for several years now, I know I have to adjust my water intake downwards when it gets cold unless I want to use the toilet like 100x a day or something....!!

2 months ago I switched to drinking water exclusively. I avoid soda, never was a coffe drinker, and I'll have unsweetened tea when I'm not too lazy to actually make some. I honestly don't know how much water I take in daily, I don't bother with measuring but I feel like I fill my water cup/bottle up during work hours, hourly. I sit it on the desk, and every time I walk by or see it, I mindlessly drink half of it. I think sometime the trick is to be mindless about it! And I prefer using a reuseable cup with a straw. I buy those plastic cups, that look like soda cups, with the reusable straws? Haha, I'm not sure if they have a name or what brand, but anywho, they have seasonal ones out for holidays so I always purchase 1 for the upcoming holiday. I find I drink more when using a straw. I'll be doing something, paperwork, listening to a coworker talk, so forth and be sucking on the straw very mindless.. Until I start sucking air! Mindless is the way to go! Lol! :)

So don't. This whole 8 glasses a day thing is a myth.
