OUCH!

Are squats, lunges, dips and push ups supposed to hurt for days after? I've been pushing them pretty hard in my circuit routines and even having done them 2 days ago now, my biceps, triceps, thighs and calves are in total agony! It's like I've stuffed rocks under my skin! Any tips on how I can get over it quicker? Maybe I'm a sook I don't know, but it freaking kills! I want to start lifting, but if this is what I'm like lifting my own 104kg body weight I'm afraid if I start doing it I won't be able to walk or wipe my own *kitten*!

Squats are notorious for this. Once you get used to them the soreness isn't nearly as bad. Give yourself a couple of days to recover before hitting those muscles again and keep at it! Good luck!0

If you're fairly new to exercise, it's just something you'll have to get used to.
As far as recovery/ soreness reduction:
Foam roll every day. Foam rollers are cheap and effective, buy one.
Take a contrast shower. 60 seconds hot, 60 seconds cold. at least 3 rounds.
Walk on your "off" days to get blood flowing.0 -
It is always worse the 2nd day after you do an exercise. It will lessen as you work out more, but you will always have a little tenderness after a hard workout. Just when you first start out it is much worse.0

Stretch! I do at least 10 to 15 minutes of stretching after any sort of weight training. I find it really helps.0

It's mostly a matter of stretching those unused muscles.... you should start to feel better once there're in better condition.0

All awesome advice, thanks everyone, much appreciated! xx0

Usually when I work my legs I feel it more two - three days later. Get your protein in!0

I have accepted the fact that I will be sore everyday for the rest of my life. As long as you rest that muscle group you will learn to live with the pain. And take satisfaction in knowing your workouts are effective and your body is shaping into something awesome!
I have leg day on Tuesday and my legs will still hurt Sunday. I did arms on Saturday and BAM! Still sore as I type this. It's all good. Keep up the great work!0 -
massage will help with delayed onset of muscle soreness because we are able to push and break up the lactic acid build up in the muscles...but you also have to drink a lot of water to flush it out.0

Again thanks so much for the advice everyone! I just keep telling myself that it's a 'good hurt' LOL. Feeling better today, so I'm off to try out a gym!0
