Need help staying long term

I have done myfitnesspal off and on for a couple of years- over all- after the birth of my son- I have lost 74 lbs. This is all good. I have been really working at getting the last 40 lbs off that I want to get off to get to my size 6 again- I lost 20 of them in the past two months. Here's my question: do any of you hit that point where sticking with it is more difficult? I start every day right- committed- but for the past week, I have given in by late day- I'm not totally derailed, but bad enough that if I keep this up, not only will i never lose that last 20 lbs, but I'll gain.

I really want to do this- I am close now- I exercise- I know all about healthy eating- I'm just trying to figure out how to make it stick and how to push through this part... anyone have any ideas that would help? I want these changes to become a way of life- how do i not give in to those little cravings that break my day long term?

First of all, congrats! Sounds like you are doing great.

I think that we have to develop some healthy habits to contradict the world of excess around us (in Houston, TX, I have to).

So I have a list of all the things I do to stay healthy since I have been maintaining - for over a year now.

    1) I log. my calories on MFP
    2) I drink water.
    3) I take my vitamins and supplemnents
    4) I wear my activity tracking device and continue to maintain and up my activity level
    5) I get on the scales (for me daily, for others, weekly, others they will measure)
    6) I get my wellness checkup once a year.
    7) I stand up for at least 10 minutes of every hour even though I have a desk job I stand or do yoga or barre 3 in those 10+ minutes

don't beat yourself up if you have wellness goals and you miss one day or one item on your list. Focus on the do's .

I also went to get a evaluation for my best weight range for ME... and that's the 2 pounds down or 2 pounds up from my goal weight I live in. and feel great.

Our lives change rapidly and finding new ways - from how to work in exercise with new born and toddlers to how to eat on the go with Junior High kids activities to beocming an empty nester is always a challenge...but so worth it!

There is a difference between cravings and hunger. Cravings say, "I must have pickles" or whatever. Hunger says, "I need calories!" Often we crave specific things (or even have random cravings for food in general) when we are not actually hungry. Why is that?

Well, based on personal experience, as well as the experience of people I know who eat healthy, i have come to the conclision that cravings are the body saying "I need nutrients." You say you know all about healthy eating. I don't want to argue, but you weren't specific, so I'm just going to make some general recomendations. If they don't apply, well, I tried. :)

First, get rid of GMOs. If you don't know what they are, google Genetic Roulette and watch the movie (you can rent online for about $3).

Second, start buying more organic. Especially produce. I know it's not cheap, but of you shop sales, you can often do pretty well, depending on where you are. Last night I picked up a head of organic leaf lettuce for $1.50. I've paid more than that for conventional.

Next, get a juicer, and start juicing veggies. And not just carrots--throw in the good scraps you might otherwise toss, like the broccoli stems. Juice greens like kale and chard and spinach. Throw in an apple if you need to for flavor. And drink! I found that such juices killed the notorious pregnancy cravings on seconds. Wheat grass powder mixed with 100% fruit juice worked almost as well and was a lot faster when I didn't have time to juice. I buy it on Amazon--cheapest price anywhere and free shipping if you get a big enouh size.

That's where I would start. I mean, that is what I have done. Maybe some of those ideas will help.

Thank you- very good information. I never heard of the movie- so I will check it out. Juicing is one thing I have not done to date- but I eat tons of veggies- so am totally open.

I think my problem is not hunger usually- it's just lack of willpower at times- and sabbotage. I'm trying to work through it so that I can make changes.

And yes I agree on the organic- my produce bill is huge these days but I don't care- money well spent.
