Can work account for exercise?

I work as a Patient Access Rep in the ER. I am on my feet most of the shift walking from room to room to room to room. LOL Unfortunately, I didn't wear a pedometer, so I don't know how many steps I took today. But I worked practically non stop from 7:30 am to 6:15 pm (minus 30 minute lunch and potty breaks).

Can I account for any of this as exercise?

You should account for it in your activity level, but I would not count it as exercise.

    Yup.

I count activities that make me sweat as exercise, whether it be raking leaves, shoveling snow or playing sports/gym workout.
  • Update your Diet Profile and set your "How would you describe your normal daily activities" question to the radio button beside Active. Counting it as exercise is cheating ;)

IT DEPENDS ON YOUR ACTIVITY LEVEL!!

If you factor your job in IE have it set as active or very active, it is already figured in.
If you have it set at Sedentary you need to add it in.

    Does that make sense?

Put it down in your "work-up as active at work. It makes a lot of difference in how may calories you burn during the day and how many you have to consume. If you do something at work that is out of the ordinary and is strenuous, by all means log it as exerciser. they have categories for such things as mowing the lawn, house work etc. It's there for you to use, you shouldn't need to make this any harder that it already is. Good Luck!

My job is not sitting on my butt at a desk. Under that circumstance I wouldn't even of asked the question.

I did adjust my activity level to account for it. Thank you for your help.

I don't usually count my work as exercise, but then, my work is so different from day to day. One day I may be primarily sitting and the next I could be lifting a lot of heavy items, assembling furniture and toys, and walking around a great deal. If it is a day when I only got light to medium physical activity from my normal work efforts, I don't note those in MFP.
However, if it was an extreme work day, I do record some of it, while trying to underestimate it somewhat.

I always feel that it is better to underestimate a bit, my exercise calories burned, than to over-estimate them.
