HI, all. I am a 31 year old female, 5'9" and weigh 268 or so. (will know precisely tomorrow.) Anyway I have been over weight all my life and I am simply tired of it. I am tired of not getting to wear cute clothes because they either don't make them big enough or I don't have the confidence to wear them. I want to look and feel sexy once in my life. I have never really been on a diet for more than a day, you know I'd get depressed about being fat and look up diet sites then go eat chips till I forgot about it for the day. I am hoping by joing a group of people it will keep me motivated and I will lose weight. I thought about getting put on a diet pill like adapex or phentermine but my husband has talked me into giving it three months with diet and exercise only to see what happens. So hello all wish me luck. I will be posting pics later of my current body ( if I get up the nerve.). Maybe seeing it will also help motivate me. Good luck to everyone.

    Welcome to My Fitness Pal!!

I was actually on Phentermine for a few months. I lost a ton of weight and got to my lowest ever, but the side effects weren't worth it. I was jittery all the time, like I couldn't get enough to do. I was constantly hot (probably do to my metabolism) and once off I gained most of my weight back despite using P90X.

The absolute best motivation I've found is to take pictures of yourself and post them up where everyone can see them. Get over that hurtle of being embarrassed about yourself. Not to mention your scale will lie! So, take pictures now and every couple of months and let the progress motivate you :)

    Echelle,
Welcome to MFP!! This is the most supportive life-changing place you could be. With the tools and the support available here, you CAN change your life!! You have a lot of life ahead of you, and with some time and effort, you can be 'the skinny girl'--relatively speaking, in the future.

I am 25 years older than you are. In April of 2009, I decided the best birthday gift I could give myself was to lose weight. I had the idea I could lose 100 lbs. in a year, which, as you can see by the ticker, did not happen, but I haven't given up. After about 5 months of staying the same, I am back at it again. I am on my third set of clothes, as I am too small for the old ones. This is a good feeling. I have gone from a size 24W to a misses 12 in pants.

Think of this as a lifestyle change. Doing that helped me maintain my loss, even when I wasn't working that hard at losing. Don't try to change everything in your diet at once. Start with changes you can manage, like logging all your food and exercise, drinking at least 8 glasses of water. Learn about nutrition and modify what you are eating to make healthier choices. Look on the web for healthy recipes. Others who are on this website will be glad to point you to info, just ask.

You CAN do this!! :drinker::drinker: One day at a time!!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

I hope you stay with us. This is a great site and the people all pull for each other. I have lost 23 lbs here--one day at a time--with some mess-ups (of course, we are human here). The primary thing to remember is that we all have weak moments, but we just have to continue our new healthy ways the next day.
    Hints:
-Drink about 8 glasses of water a day.
-Try to stay away from too much sodium (sodas, chips, some deli meats and cheeses, salt on popcorn).
-Any movement is a form of exercise. Do you love to sing? They have calorie counts for singing/going to church! ;) Walking is a good, steady, low-impact exercise that almost everyone can do.
-Eat your minimum food amount each day--mine is 1200 calories.
-Go for fresh fruits and veggies, eat raw, baked, grilled, blended into a drink(?), and go for whole grains and fat free dairy products.
-Keeping the fats down (I limit my bad fats--the saturated ones--to 10g per day. Total fats, healthy and bad should probably not exceed 30% of your daily calories. One (1) gram of Fat = 9 calories, while 1 gram of carbs and protien each = 4 calories.

Okay, I'm done sharing what helped me. Each person does their own unique way. Best of success with your new healthy eating style. Hugs, :drinker: (water)

I think that joining this site is going to be enormously helpful to you. I have tried over the last several years to lose 10 pounds, instead I gradually gained weight until I needed to lose almost 20 pounds. This program has been the one thing that has helped me. I just hit my goal weight about a month ago after religiously doing this program for 6 months. If you use MyFitnessPal every day and enter everything you will lose weight too. It's eye opening to see how many calories our in our favorite foods.
My best advice to you is to enter everything you eat into MyFitnessPal, eat lots of fruits & veggies, and really restrict breads & pasta.
So easy to say, so hard to do - but once you start to see progress you will feel motivated. Stay on this and it will work for you.
Good Luck, and keep all of us posted on how you are doing.

    Welcome!
I have to agree with everyone else, this site is awesome and if you follow its guidelines it will work for you. I've lost 18 pounds so far and I don't even feel like I am dieting. I don't even really eat that differently, just smaller portions! And I still go out once a week with my girlies and eat whatever I want (nothing ever logged after lunch on Wednesdays :blushing: ).

So make sure you give it a chance and remember to drink your water!

    WELCOME!! :flowerforyou:

This is a great site and you will make friends and get support, motivation and loads of info for getting the weight off and changing your life.
I know what you mean about not feeling sexy and being embarrassed about wearing some clothes. I have been there, well, still am LOL, but MFP and some of the ppl I have met here have kept me on track and accountable.
Look thru all the posts, make some friends, and blog, add all the foods that go into yr mouth into your dairy and post pics.
I know what worked for me, I am halfway to the weight I want to be at, and i am just starting into my 5th month here and 36lbs gone.

Take it slow, one day at a time, but stay on track. Do whatever you have to do to stay focused and you will start to see changes and u will feel better physically & mentally.

Please add me if u want as a friend, anytime u need some pushing, just drop me a note! :):)

    You can do this!!!
    Luly:bigsmile:
