I wish I had gotten that advice when I was young!

^this should be the only post you need! Check her out and your fears will be calmed.0 -
You have alot of muscle already to carry yourself around cause you are over weight, if you eat at a deficient and eat enough protein you will keep that muscle so no you won't bulk up by accident
I kept most my lean muscle mass, everyone under estimates my weight by alot
Muscles aren't going to beat you up, however keeping overweight and being scared of muscle may well rob you from a few years!
Get fit and healthy everything else is aesthetic0 -
Trust me, if it were that easy to build muscle we'd all mostly look like gods0

It takes a lot lot lot of work to look like one of the uber-muscley guys. No one has ever done that unintentionally, you don't need to worry you'll be the first.0

You know! those people who are more muscle than human! Thats how my personal trainer is...I dont want to look like that >.>
I'm a natural bodybuilder. Been working at it for 3 years now. Check out my pictures and tell me if I look like that. I don't do much cardio, I just lift heavy. I started out at 217 pounds and lost most my weight through diet and lifting weights.

Mmmmm, if you keep saying stuff like that, this may not end well!
Do you have the slightest idea how HARD your PT works to look like that?!0 -
I wish someone would make me a muscle freak. That sounds awesome.0

Dont worry! You cannot grow much muscle in a calorie deficit.
Lifting will help you achieve your goals...trust us.
You are young! take advantage of that testosterone!
This. You're not going to gain a lot of muscle while eating in a calorie deficit.
Also, look at all of these beautiful people who lift weights on a regular basis (both women and men) who look awesome! They don't look bulky, they don't look like body builders, and they certainly don't look like freaks! I happen to be one of the people who lifts heavy and the only thing making me bulky is 40% body fat.0 -

Probably for the best of you're that sensitive!
Its called having enough reapect for myself to not let insecure people disrespect me.
Honestly, this thread seems tame compared to others out there. I think that most of the people were trying to help, and there will always be the people who like posting funny things and aren't really that helpful, but that's what happens on the webbernetz.0 -

Did you not like my advice? I was siding with you...0 -
Let me break it down for you... to lose weight = less calories in than calories burned. The more muscles you have, the more calories your body burns while not doing anything. You metabolism increases. That's why muscular people can go for the longest periods without any working out and not put on a pound. Building up muscle is the BEST way to kick start fat loss.0

I keep picturing myself either still fat with muscle...or a giant walking muscle...Calm my fears please
LMAO I love soft kitty0 -
mhm... I wish that would happen to me.
Seriously, though. I've often rolled my eyes at people who worry about getting too bulky or muscular. You're still overweight. Getting muscular and bulky is quite possibly the BEST thing that could happen to you.0 -

Just my 2 cents. Welcome to MFP, and good luck with your journey, stick with the trainer, dump processed foods/junk foods, eat clean and you will be just fine.0
