Just Got Told Im Putting Some Weight On!!!!

OMFG! Someone, a customer, just told me that I am putting some weight on!!!! WTF! I have been on MFP since October 2013 and lost 5lbs in the first 6 weeks. Although I havn't lost a thing in the last 4 months though!!! Is it because Im heavy lifting now??? I only eat 1700 cals a day!!! Im 5'9" and weight about 150-155 flucuating. He said "Hey good looking, how are ya today? Ur putting some weight on!" WTFing hell! Day is sooo ruined. He has no idea how much he hurt my feelings..... And now my husband has to deal with my whining and questions about my weight and how I look. I wish I was just 140lbs again like i was prepregancy..... omg....

First of all, anybody who says "you are putting some weight on!" especially to a woman, is a complete jerk.
Secondly, I'm guessing you may have gained some muscle while you haven't gone down on the scale and maybe that is what he noticed. I would just ignore him and move on. Who cares what he thinks?

Maybe he meant it as a positive thing. Like-- you're putting some muscle on. Men can be really really profoundly stupid about the fact that weight means something different to most women (negative / fat) than most men (positive, muscle). You've go to be pretty lean with your stats and the fact that you lift. It's got to be a miscommunication.

He said "hey looking good!" followed by "you've put some weight on"? Seems odd to say these 2 things together :S Maybe he meant to say muscle weight? If you are heavy lifting. Have you taken measurements? I eat about the same amount of calories a day so if you are logging consistently then I don't think this would be the issue.

But still, who asks that lol

Im told that the only way a woman can put muscle on is to wait a long time of doing heavy lifting. I've only been doing it for like 4 months so...... and not consistantly until April 1st so really only a little over a month of heavy lifting that I would count. My my *kitten* got bigger from the squat challenge???

^this. Plus insults don't usually start with "hey good looking"

Im 5'11 and my ideal goal weight is 180. I think your fine. When i did heavy lifting I bulked up fast. If you don't want to bulk just build, do more reps with lighter weights. You will be built but not muscle bound. Your going to gain muscle weight either way.

Why focus on the negative part of the comment? Remember, he did say "hey, good looking" - just think, someone called you good looking today - that's awesome!! :flowerforyou:

Edited: Also, you know the truth. You have lost 5 lbs and are maintaining that loss. That is good work, I hope you continue to take care of your body, and not get discouraged by this.

Anyone think Im gaining weight so quickly from lifting heavy 3 times a week because im type 1 diabetic on insulin??? would that have anything to do with it?

Wow can we say foot in mouth syndrome. Rule number one never ever say that to a woman. Well muscle does weight more than fat. So if you are lifting and you do see the scale going up but your clothes are fitting better dont worry about it its just the muscle.

Does he know that you lift weights at all? Maybe he meant you put on weight/gained muscle because of the weight lifting.

however i know how upsetting idiotic remarks can be, especially about how we look. try and take it with a pinch of salt - you know how hard you've worked and how far you've come.

Sounds like that was a total compliment. He may have thought that you were too lanky before and working has probably added some pretty curves to you. I think the comment was thoughless but harmless.

Sounds like he could've been just trying to be a jerk on purpose. There are a$$h0les like that out there, who live to make others feel bad, and it has nothing to do with you or what you look like, you just happened to be there when he felt like saying something a$$y. Just try to ignore him and get on with your amazing self. :)

Point is from what Ive been doing, my body should be getting smaller from lifting the weights, not bigger!!!! So what if muscle weighs more than fat!!! This muscle im working or building or whatever should be upping my metabolism and therefore, burning fat which in turn i should be seeing smaller #s on the scale. I don't get this **** and I don't like it. Yes my body might look good but sure as hell not good enough to ME. ME ME ME!!! GOal is to fit back into prepreg jeans. Let it happen lord oh let it happen!!!

Maybe he meant to say "Can I put some of my weight on you", and it just came out wrong.

Or, "Stop putting me on, I can't wait..."

Yup, generally live in their own little world. He probably thought it was a great compliment and if he didn't, then he's just an *kitten* that's trying to make up for having a small penis.

Do not worry. I have been weight training about the same amount of time, and have put 3 pounds on! My lack of cardio is part of that issue.
With that said: my body fat is down, and so are all my measurements. I am much older than you, so everything is much slower to lose. I do have to say...I have not been spot on in the eating on a regular basis, and watching all caloric intake.

You are doing great... and some guys just dont get the program.

Okayyyy... Every day something someone says upsets you, whether it's your sister or a stranger. You come on here and tell us. What do you want?! woe is you.

Seriously? I feel bad for your husband.

It sounds like he meant it as a compliment. Perhaps he likes a curvier build...? I doubt he would've referred to you as "Good Lookin'" if he planned to insult you directly after. Don't take it out on your poor husband and whine about it! Just keep doing what you're doing and continue to make progress. Whining won't get you anywhere and you will waste an enjoyable night with your husband stressing about something that eventually won't be an issue.

How are your measurements? Progress photos? It's possible to lose a lot of volume and stay the same or gain on the scale. The tape measure will tell you more about your size than the scale.

people will not typically notice a 5 pound gain - to the plus or minus

unless perhaps you are walking around naked

it could be that you are retaining water, or your clothes fit differently. Or maybe he needs his eyes checked.
What he did openly admit to is that he is checking out your body. Enough so, that he commented on it

    shhhh... don't tell your husband
