Polar FT7 HRM, is it accurate?

Hi everyone...just curious if anybody had one of these HRM? I posted something on here last night saying I used one and one member here said that they are not accurate for women but I always heard they were the most accurate HRM (polar brand in general). I eat back my exercise calories so just now worried about it.
I used to have a Timex that WAY overestimated my calories and Polar seems to really be much less. Anyway...just wondering from you peeps if it was a bad HRM.

    I used mine pretty religiously during my major weight loss. I felt it gave me a much better calorie count than most any of the estimates I found.

    I use mine daily... and my nutritionist said to log only 85% of the calories burned to account for what your body would be burning if you were sitting there doing absolutely nothing... 56 pounds down it hasnt failed me yet :)

    I hope not, I just bought one haha. But all HRM's arent exactly on the dot with accuracy, but they are better than using machines calorie counter, or MFP calorie estimate, and I would have to say more accurate than estimating your average heart rate and calculating that way. Polar is a well known brand and I know a lot of people on here use that particular one.

    So do you minus off 15% of your total burn?

    Yes I have the same question. Why do you only log 85% of it again? do you eat back your calories? confused????
    Do most people here using the polar HRM eat back their calories or not?

    I've been running 5k distances lately with my ft7 and it estimates a higher calorie burn than my treadmill does. But I run at 85-90% of max heart rate so it's possible the ft7 is correct. However I purposely only eat back 50% or so..

    I have a polar HRM and I dont eat back my calories

    okay so most people here on MFP say to eat back exercise calories...when using an HRM should one not do this? so confused now.

    1. 85% Gross calorie burn is what you burn exercising AND what you would have burned just living and breathing if you were lying down. With ANY heart rate monitors OR gym eqmt, if you are just going to eat back exercise calories, you have to separate our daily living from the exercise once you get the readout. MVP does this for you (getting your net number, albeit an estimate burn). When you use your own HR monitors, you can do it yourself by calculating about 85% of the reading, or go to "gross to net HR calculators" like this one to have it converted it for you: http://www.shapesense.com/fitness-exercise/calculators/heart-rate-based-calorie-burn-calculator.aspx

    2. HR Monitors are only accurate for same state aerobic activity. They don't do as well with high intensity interval training, circuit training, or weight training. If you are keeping your heart rate up the whole time, they give a pretty good read...and it's more a problem of not having any better algorithms to use for these newer HIIT based types of workouts.

    My info comes from what I understand from others who have explained it to me. I hope I got close.

    Yes I subtract 15% from my total burn and log that amount for my records. I dont eat back my exercise calories anymore, its all figured into my daily activity.

  • No idea if they're accurate but I have one. Mine says I burn something like 2900 on days I don't exercise and 3800-4000+ on days when I do, which seems really high.

    oh I see, that makes sense. so you put your calories at TDEE level or something or on the MFP settings. what do you set it to?
