Figure out your TDEE and then subtract 20%.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure. You can find TDEE calculators just by googling TDEE calculator. I don't know, I'm new to this. I'm trying out 1400 this week after being on MFP's recommendation of 1200. I'm a little nervous but we will see. I was told to subtract 30% from my TDEE if I have a lot to lose (which I do.)

Everyone's different, but I lost just fine at 1400 calories per day (total - not net), with some larger amounts on the weekends. I'm 5'9".

I now eat around 2100 a day with more on the weekends, and have maintained my goal just fine - no starvation mode here.

I've lost 17 lbs in 3 months... so 25 lbs by August is definitely possible ... check your BMR (basal metabolic rate) which is how many calories your body needs to stay at your exact same weight while at rest.... it's under the "apps" tab at the top... then scroll down to BMR on the right..key in your height, weight, etc.... mine is around 1495 calories per day so I've been trying to consume around 1200 daily and so far I've been losing around 1.5 to 2 lbs per week. Hope this helps! Good luck! :)
