Just Got Told Im Putting Some Weight On!!!!

Point is from what Ive been doing, my body should be getting smaller from lifting the weights, not bigger!!!! So what if muscle weighs more than fat!!! This muscle im working or building or whatever should be upping my metabolism and therefore, burning fat which in turn i should be seeing smaller #s on the scale. I don't get this **** and I don't like it. Yes my body might look good but sure as hell not good enough to ME. ME ME ME!!! GOal is to fit back into prepreg jeans. Let it happen lord oh let it happen!!!
Fitting into pre-pregnancy jeans is, while not necessarily impossible, not typically a realistic goal to have. Since the hips get wider during pregnancy to aid in the birthing process, they don't normally go all the way back to normal. This would make it very difficult to fit back into a pair of jeans you wore prior to your pregnancy - even if you do reach the same weight. I'm not saying this to discourage you, but just so you don't feel like you've failed if you can't fit into them even after reaching your pre-pregnancy weight.0 -
Maybe he meant it as a positive thing. Like-- you're putting some muscle on. Men can be really really profoundly stupid about the fact that weight means something different to most women (negative / fat) than most men (positive, muscle). You've go to be pretty lean with your stats and the fact that you lift. It's got to be a miscommunication.
^this. Plus insults don't usually start with "hey good looking"
This. Chalk it up to men being men, and don't be so sensitive.0 -
Sounds like that was a total compliment. He may have thought that you were too lanky before and working has probably added some pretty curves to you. I think the comment was thoughless but harmless.
This is what I thought, too. I've met a few girls who even I think "Damn... you could use a cheeseburger! And some chili cheese fries... And a jumbo shake..." At 5'9" and around 150, you definitely don't fit the cheeseburger comment, but he might have thought you were looking a little gaunt previously.
Now if someone told ME I looked like I was putting on weight (when I still have 60-100 to lose), THAT wouldn't bode well... And that would lead to a love affair with said cheeseburger, fries and shake.0 -
"I have been on MFP since October 2013 "
Are you visiting us from the future? If so do I ever get a hard body? Do I get the promotion? Finally which stock is at it's highest so i drop some cash on it right quick!0 -
I would just brush it off.
I had a guy come up to me in Walmart once, years ago when I was working there, and say "You know, I just wanted to tell you that I think you are a very beautiful woman. You have such a pretty face, if you just lost some weight you would be getting some turned heads... think about it."
I don't know why men feel the need to say dumb crap, but they seem to be pretty good at it. I wouldn't stress it.0 -

Not sure if my hips changed at all though. I was only pregnant for 8 months and i delivered by csection. Maybe there is more hope for me to get back into those jeans?? I hope....0 -

I certainly hope so. I'm the type who would have said; "What do you mean by that?" and make it awkward for him, but I get how that would be so shocking that you'd be at a loss for words. What a stupid thing to say, but he COULD have meant it as a compliment. I just thought that full-grown adults would know better. Idiot.0 -
Im told that the only way a woman can put muscle on is to wait a long time of doing heavy lifting. I've only been doing it for like 4 months so...... and not consistantly until April 1st so really only a little over a month of heavy lifting that I would count. My my *kitten* got bigger from the squat challenge???
Not true....4 months is enough time. Take your measurements and see if your waist has gotten smaller. Your thighs and arms may have increased in size (if you have been gaining muscle but not really shredding the fat)0 -

I'm a reasonably intelligent guy. That said, about six years ago, I told a guy friend of mine, "Hey, congrats. I bet you and your wife are really excited about the upcoming addition to your family." "Uh, what?" "Your wife...she's pregnant, right?" "Uh, no...she just hasn't been to the gym as much lately as she used to." "Oh." <awkward silence>
So not only did I break my "unless there are baby body parts showing, say nothing that even remotely acknowledges that she might be pregnant", but also I didn't interpret the "uh, what?" as a strong clue that now was the time for me to STFU.
So yeah, guys are idiots.0 -
you need to lower calories if you want to lose fat...
srs most people need less cutting calories then the calculators predict.0 -

Tell him his head's getting fat, and so is his mouth.0

 That reminds me of my own story. I've always been thin. When I was about 16 my litte sister (about 10 or 11at the time) made a loud comment in front of a holiday gathering. When I came out in my new dress she shouted, "Wow! You look like you could give birth!" I was mortified and everyone scolded her.
It turns out she thought she was complimenting me. She had just gone through one of those sex-ed classes and was learning about how the female body changes when they get to reproductive age (they get curvy hips and boobs.) I guess she meant that the dress showed off my new womanly curves! She said, "I didn't say you were gonna give birth, just that you could if you wanted to!" OMG LOL! I guess that's a good example of miscommunication! :laugh:0 -
You probably are. He thinks it makes you look better.
Problem is more that he wasn't invited to give an opinion.
Either way....blown out of proportion.0 -
A) if he's a "regular" customer the next time he comes in ask him, WTF did you mean by that. preface this with a talk to your manager about his behavior so you two can gang up on him and the manager can ask him never to return if his intentions were rude.
b) if he's not a regular customer, screw him, he was probably taking out on you something meant for some other woman in his life and your husband nor you should have to deal with fallout from his douchebaggery.0 -
Okayyyy... Every day something someone says upsets you, whether it's your sister or a stranger. You come on here and tell us. What do you want?! woe is you.
Seriously? I feel bad for your husband.
agreed...0 -
He may well have meant it as a compliment..he called you good looking, perhaps he thought you were actually too thin (to his tastes) before. And yeah, guys are kind of dense on those things.0

Yeah, I know a lot of guys who refer to building muscle as just putting weight on, and therefore aim to put weight on. If he started with "hey good looking" he probably meant it as a positive thing.0 -
I would consider 140 for 5'9'' to be way skinny... Lol. I am 5'5'' and 140 on me looks amazing... lol
He is a guy, they don't know any better. Maybe you are gaining muscles?0 -
Is it because of your big bewbs?
I also noticed that the OP joined in October of 2013. Pretty impressive.0 -
I work with a woman who just can't say anything nice about my weight loss. She is almost a full foot taller than I am, and bigger in every way. She often gives me clothes saying, "This is too big for me, but it might fit you." I always take the clothes, because they're lovely, and I know how to sew so I can alter them. But really! Anything too big for her is going to swim on me. Yesterday she said that I had lost some weight, then she said, "But you had gained a lot from the time I first met you." Come on!!!! I had not!!! I've come to the conclusion that she is jealous, and wishes she was doing as well as I am. It's her problem, not mine. I'll just go on my merry way.0

THIS thread should be entitled. "Cheese with this WHINE" instead of the other Thread!!! OMG, how weak are we to GIVE OUR POWER OVER To Others! WOW..."we" just surrender our power to STUPID strangers...or anyone for that matter, just give up our power and dignity behind a few words. People know how to pull "our" strings, they KNOW where to touch INSECURITIES and take control, just like a pedophile. NOT only that, "WE" turn around and take hurt feelings out on those closest to us...and "WE" wonder why so many in the world are lonely or sad or depressed...
Shame on you for not speaking up, like, "Oh, you know I have actually lost X lbs since the baby was born and I am into a really healthy workout routine, I'm trying to get healthy not skinny>>>haha." My feeling is that if someone has the GAUL to comment about something of which I DID not ASK THEIR OPINION, then they have the nerve to take MY Response... don't start no shyt, won't be no shyt! I sleep WELL at night, and azzholes and gossips don't even mess with Me; Oh and My Loved ones do NOT experience displaced feelings because I leave bad ones where they are. BUT this philosophy and guts takes some "Living"!0 -

Wow! Im impressed!!! yes I made a typo and put Oct 2013 instead of Oct 2012. Knock me down and call me Susan!!! And some of yas are right - i should just shrug it off and not let what others say bother me! And the rest of yas are just damn right rude. I have always had issues with the way I look and always got bothered when someone said something (even if it was kind of like a compliment) That's just who I am.... Putting my head down and going until I fit into those jeans again. Peace y'all!
We all have body image issues, and we all struggle with our weight, that's why we are here. If I threw a fit every time someone made a comment about my weight, I would have spent YEARS doing nothing but crying. You're just fueling the fire for those who had negative comments. We all understand how it could offend you, but how many times are you going to freak out on here about the same things over and over again? I'm sorry, but I would kill to weigh 155 pounds. I haven't been that since the 6th grade. Now, suck it up buttercup and get to work. If you want to lose 15 pounds, do more cardio, watch what you're eating, and work your *kitten* off instead of crying... got it? K, good.0 -
Was he being sarcastic?0

What a complete jerk! Who the heck has the audacity to tell someone they're putting on some weight that barely knows them on a personal level? Just keep doing what you're doing & ignore what he said.0
