Running with headphones

I've been doing C25K and I'm having a problem with the headphones staying in my ears, mainly during the running intervals. First of all, I aparently have funny-shaped ears or something, b/c I can't wear earbuds at all. I can be sitting perfectly still and they'll fall out for no reason! So I have two different pair of headphones w/the earhooks, but they tend to get jostled loose, especially the right one. One pair stays on a little better than the other, but it's got the fabric pads, which is uncomfortable in this heat. So yesterday I tried the other pair, and the left one stayed in better, but the right one was worse: I couldn't run 4 steps before it'd fall out.
So I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem? Do you have special headphones or something? I've been thinking about looking for a pair designed for running at a sporting goods store, but I really can't afford much right now. My other options are to run with just the left one in and the right one clipped onto my shirt, which actually worked pretty well yesterday. Or I could duct-tape the headphones to my ears!

Ear buds don't stay in for me when I run. I have a pair of sports headphones that fit in your year but have the hooks for over your ears. They work well for me.0

I also have very small ear canals and the hard ear plugs just fall right out too. Look for the ones with a soft rubber cushion fitting. There are many brands on the market and they usually come with more than one size in the box. The brand i have is called ifrogz but I have seen them in stores too, I think named skull candy or something.0

well I definitley wouldn't duct-tape them to your ears! Can you imagine the pain in ripping that off?! OUCH! There are different ear buds you can buy for about $15 at Target and they come with adjustable peices that go in the ears from large to quite small...you could try those. They aren't like the normal earbuds that come with an Ipod. they actually go in the ears a little bit. Good Luck!! and let us know what you find!0

make sure your earbuds are in the correct ears, if your wearing the wrong one in the wrong ear, it wont stick at all.0

sweat band or bandana to hold them in place?0

I have these - they work pretty well - I have odd shaped ears and have the same problem. Maybe you could use bobby pins?

I have little ears and headphones don't stick when I am running. When I run, I get the ones that are flat and have the little rubber things that wrap around your ears to secure them. It may look dumb, but it's better spending half of your run messing with your earbuds.0

Yeah, the ones I wore yesterday are similar to the first ones, except that they don't go ALL around the ear, just around most of it. They work really well in my left ear, just not the right. :ohwell:0 -
I use the JVC Mashmallow in-ear earbuds exclusively and I love them. You compress the tips with your fingers before inserting them into your ears and they will expand slightly once you have them in there, much like earplugs.
You can find them on amazon for under $20 and they come in a wide array of colors: http://amzn.to/aAuogx
For better results, insert them into the ear upside down (so the wire points up) and loop it over the top of your ear, then tighten the cinch behind your head. This will keep them firmly in place while reducing microphonics.0 -

i hope that link works but thats what my runner friend wears and she never has an issue0 -
Sony has a pair that clips over your ear. They work perfect and have a decent sound. It is hard to duplicate the Ipod earbuds (to me) but if they stay in your ears thats what really counts. I got my Sony pair at Best Buy and they are awesome.0

Yeah, Best Buy seems to have all of the headphones suggested, so I think I'm going to go browse when I get home today.
THANKS EVERYBODY!! :flowerforyou:0 -
I've had this problem too, and the ones I settled on using are by a brand called Skullcandy (you can get them at Target). They come with different sized rubber fittings for your ears, so you can choose between three sizes for what fits you best. They are more cylindrical shaped rather than the flattened ipod earbud. I have gone through several pairs and would recommend them. My ears are also quite sensitive and pretty small, and I really something that just stays put while on long runs. Good luck!0
