Hi everyone! My best friend introduced me to this app 4 days ago and I have not been able to put my iphone down since! I have been overweight for the last 20 years (gained at 10 yrs old). I have tried everything you can imagine to loose weight, in fact I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery in the next 10 months! I am hoping that this is going to be my miracle tool to help me take the weight off and keep it off with my ultimate goal being able to cancel my surgery!! I have other health issues as well including high blood pressure, PCOS, and Hidradenitis. I am hopeful that these 3 conditions will improve or disappear altogether once I get down to a healthy weight. If you would like to me add me please do so... especially if we have a lot in common from what I have told you so far.
Happy Weight Loss!

Hi Jessica,
I'm Margaret, I am 38 and I weigh in at 338 lbs. I have been overweight my whole life, since I was a child, and I am also going thru the process of Bariatric Surgery. My choice for gastric bypass is the vertical sleeve.
I am starting an extreme fitness regimen, which will entail going to the gym 7 days a week, and eating protein, fresh fruit, and plain salad, with very light salad dressing. No pop, I am approved by my gastric bypass nurse that I can drink Powerade Zero which tastes great! It's cheaper at Walmart.
I am getting started on my vitamins, and am looking to lose at least 20-50 lbs. by July 18th!
Good Luck to you, You can do it!

Fellow Jessica! This app is great, isn't it? I have a lot of medical issues in my family (mostly diabetes and high blood pressure but I'm sure there's more I'm unaware of the effect weight has on) I've managed to dodge so far. I know my luck will eventually run out so I'm getting a handle on my weight. Plus, I just am very unhappy with how I look and feel. I hope this app helps you and I'd love to provide as much encouragement as I can along the way!0

You can do it on your own without surgery, just have faith and work hard!
I started this change at 543 lbs. I have lost 33 pounds so far. I'm a work in progress.
I'm now 510 lbs and as I get closer and closer to my first goal of 499 lbs I just get more excited and push harder and harder.
You can do it!0 -

Hello. I am 5 years post op from Gastric Bypass. I started at 350, lost 140, gained 40 back and now working my *kitten* off to lose it plus some that I never did lose to begin with. The fact you are here already I think will place you at an advantage. I only wish I had had this site back then, but that's okay. The Gastric Bypass is the most wonderful thing I ever did for myself. It may be a miracle tool for the first 6 months or even year and half, but the real difference is YOU. You will make it or break it. It was not meant to be a starvation device (although it is easily used as such), and you will find that with the rapid weight loss you will have many more, but different battles ahead of you. I would do it again tomorrow if I had to. It gave me my life back, but is not, and never has been the end all be all. I wish you all the luck in the world!!! Feel free to add me if you would like.0

Hello and welcome to MFP:-) I too had PCOS, and severe asthma and was told if I wanted to have any more children I would have to lose weight, so I looked around and was scheduled to have lap band...but decided one day that there was no way I could just eat 4oz at a time lol so I bought a ten pound kettle bell from Walmart, three waist wraps and ankle weights and every day I would wrap all three wraps around my waist to my hips and walk a mile and a qtr roughly 40-47 minutes a day while swinging the kettle bell back and forth from hand to hand and in 18 months I lost 107 LBS! But still wasn't able to get pregnant so I went to a specialist who
went in surgically and found that my ovaries were invaded in huge cysts and I had a all spot of endometriosis, he fixed that and five months later I was pregnant and am now almost seven months along
I was unable to continue my daily routine due to low lying placenta so I did in fact put most of the weight back on but once baby gets here I plan to continue my weight loss journey and finally get to my goal and maintain it :-) if you ever need motivation I am always here:-)0 -
Welcome to mfp, this site is awesome. You can do it just stick with o
It and remember one step at a time. I lost 112lbs in 20 mths and now I am working on maintaince . I just looked at 10 lbs at a time because 100+ lbs seemef overwhelming and impossible, if you need support feel free to add me, I also have health issues fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and hypothyroid but I feel like I have my life back0 -
Hi Jessica!
I am also a 33 year old mother of three, currently weighing 315 lbs! My life is so busy, but I know that I have to change my lifestyle & teach my children better habits than I have had!
I had some female health issues and last November had a total hysterectomy! As terrible and emotionally tragic as that was for me... it has been life changing! I can finally focus on getting healthy instead of what I was dealing with before!
I started my "diet" about a week & a half ago and have lost 14 lbs so far! I think we need to look at this as a lifestyle change instead of a diet! A diet to me, says you can quit once you hit your goal! I think we need to change our lifestyle and keep it that way in order to be successful!
Feel free to add me as a friend, as I am sure I will need some people to talk to on this journey! I found this app on my phone a day or two ago and love what I am seeing so far!
Good luck to you on your journey to being healthy! I look forward to hearing from you again!0 -
Hi Jessica,
I started my weight loss journey 15 months ago at 370 lbs. I have since lost 119 lbs without any surgery by not starving myself and not over doing it with my exercise. I mostly walk. I believe that no diet ever works. You have to change the way you live. I eat whole and healthy and all kinds of foods that I ate before just healthier versions of them. I also allow myself a non healthy meal once a week and sweets like cookies and cake 1 to 2 times a week. What really works for me is variety when it comes to food. I'm also always eating. 5x a day. I too tried diet plans and exercise plans with failure every time. I really had to get to the root of what caused me to gain all the weight in the first place and work on that. When I started doing that then the program I'm on started to work for me. Being over 300 lbs is hard but losing a lot of weight is possible. Remember it's not always healthy to lose a lot of weight at once. 1-3 lbs a week max because if you lose too much too fast you have a higher chance of putting back on later. Good luck. I hope you find success in your journey.0 -
Hey Jessica,
Good luck to you! I am new as well and need some friends on here to chat with and to keep us going on this journey together. I am going to add you as a friend if you don't mind!
Thanks,
Charity0 -
Hi, Jessica,
I started my journey in 2008 at more than 385 pounds (that was the last known weight - not many places can actually weigh someone as large as I was). Today I weight 145 pounds. I did not have any kind of surgery. Check out my profile if you want to know more.0 -
This group of encouragers is AWESOME! I'm back to MFP...I went off the wagon & gained almost all my weight back. I could be your mother & although I'm not over 300 lbs, I'm close enough. I wasn't going to come back here but something drove me to the site this morning and now I've been blessed. Thank you all for encouraging readers other than Jessica! (BTW, Jessica - read mamasyd's food diary anytime you need a reminder of how to eat...she's a wonderful example to follow.)0

Hi Jessica - and to anyone who would like to respond and add me.
Jessica - I understand the temptation to use a gastric surgery option. I had a lap band placed nearly 5 years ago. at first it was a godsend - I lost 120 pounds in roughly 9.5 months. Over the past 2-3 years I have put the weight back on due to my own stress eating as well as some of the restrictions the band places on you. Sometimes I have found myself eating things I know were horrible, but it was the only way I could get something down. That being said, I am in the process of trying to get in shape and lose weight so that I can get RID of the lap band. I quite simply am scared to go back on the operating table in the shape I am in now. Still, this site and app are wonderful. Over the past 10 days I have dropped 11.5 pounds. Some I know is water, but the rest is just being conscious of the things going in my mouth.
I wish you all the luck - and feel free to add me if you like.0
