Hello! Going to run my first 5k!

Hello everyone! I am about to run my first 5k at the end of June. Today I timed myself for the first time. I have only been running a week now and did 3 miles in 37 minutes. I found this site searching info about 5k races. I have seen many times that people finish in I hope to finish in 30 if that is possible! :) I have about 6 weeks! I am planning on running 3 times a week and then do zumba 3 times a week on other days then rest the last day of the week. I am 5'3" and 100 lbs. What do ya think? I haven't ran since middle school which was 20 years ago. But I have been active somewhat over the years.

Your goals seem completely realistic! Especially at 100lbs. The less you weigh the faster you run
Good luck on your first 5k!

You will do great!! I just ran in my first marathon this past weekend. It was great and I made we want to sign up to do more! Just run! With time you will be able to increase your speed and endurance! Good Luck!!!

That is totally doable. Look up fartlek drills and hill drills and work on those for a while until the race. If you have the distance down, you just need to work on speed and those will help you do it the right way.

  • Definitely possible! I started running outdoors 3 weeks ago (same distance - 3 miles) and at first I couldn't even run the whole way and took me about 40 mins total. 3 weeks later not only can I run the entire way, but my speed increases everyday, it gets easier, AND I can do it a little less than 30 mins!! And that's in 3 weeks, running approx 3 times a week.

I have exams at the moment unfortunately, but as soon as they're over on june 6th I hope to run my first official 5k as well! Good luck and I'm sure you'll be able to do it x
