I want to like eggs!

I used to LOVE eggs when I was a little kid. As I got older, my tastes changed and I couldn't stand eating them at all. I know they're so good for you, so I want to like them. Y'all have any delicious, easy, inexpensive recipes?

(I'll note that I don't mind just egg white. It's the yolk I can't deal with.)

Replies

  • I used to be the same-- what kind of eggs do you buy? I find the non-caged free eggs to be pretty disgusting. How do you usually prepare your eggs?
I hated eggs until I tried them free-ranged and poached..

It's totally fine to just eat the whites scrambled up with some cheese and vegetables! You can also add an egg to oatmeal to make it creamier, just make sure it gets cooked well.

You can also make some really great quiches with less or no crust, and lower fat.

    Love this girl's recipes: http://cleananddelicious.com/2012/04/25/video-spinach-feta-brown-rice-pie/

There are plenty of other good nutritious foods out there so why force yourself to eat something you don't like.

Some people hard-boil eggs, toss the yolk, and fill with guacamole. I haven't tried this because I love regular deviled eggs, but it does sound good.

If you don't like the yolk then don't eat it. I make crepes out of egg whites.

    3/4 cup egg whites
1/4 Vermont's sugar free maple syrup
    1/4 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tbsp milled flax seeds

    Flax Pancakes:

    3 tbs ground flax meal
2 eggs (I use the yolk, but I think you can use just the white)
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tbs water
Cinnamon (or other spices) to taste

Whisk all ingredients together and fry like a traditional pancake. Top with fresh fruit, pb, or syrup! Yummy :)

I like all of these ideas :D
I usually get the brown cage-free eggs (if I can afford them...I'm a poor college student heh)

Have you ever made an egg bake? I use a small oven safe dish, just big enough for a piece of bread. You add chopped veggies, meat or cheese. Your choice! Then cover with scrambled egg/egg white combo. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or til golden brown and fluffy.

Yes...this is good. I also like poached with crumbled feta and salsa on top. Yum!

I love different omelettes, you can add whatever you want depending on your taste. (Vegetables, different beans, meats, my brother once made a 6-egg omelette with tuna and called it "the ultimate protein experience :p).
If you make it for example with ham and cheese and add herbs/spices like oregano and basil, it kind of reminds me of pizza. And who doesn't love pizza?

Whisk 2 eggs with a bit of milk in them (say 1/4 cup). Cut up a couple of your fav veggies, peppers, mushrooms for instance. Put a small lightly oiled saute pan on med heat. Pour the eggs into pan and add chopped veggies. ( you can even add some chooped ham if you like). Cover with an ounce, about 2 thin slices of your favorite cheese. Cover that with 1 cup baby spinach. Add a tablespoon of salsa. Cover the pan & reduce to med low. Wait about 8-10 mins. When spinach looks all wilted the eggs should be done. Check with saptula for firmness....

I don't like eggs when they are cooked with the egg whites and yolks separated. That is, I don't like boiled eggs/fried/poached eggs... However, I love omelets and scrambled eggs. Just something to try.

When I was a child I was allergic to egg (yes I do mean allergic; lips blistered if touched them, vomitting...generally very unpleasant). But after a restrictive diet I was allowed them again. Only problem is I can't stand them...so I have been training myself to like the flavour and texture. Once a week I make the following recipe (tastes great with crispy pancetta)

    3 medium carrots, gated
    1 courgette/zucchini, sliced into ribbons
    1 red onion, finely diced
Sage, rosemary and a pinch of cayenne (to taste)

Pour 8 beaten eggs onto the mixture and bake for 40-45 minutes (at 180'C) then serve with crispy pancetta - masks the taste while you are getting used to it.

I now almost enjoy eating this and it's only been 5 weeks. I hope you find something that works for you! Best of luck x

I just can't stand the smell of eggs, and can't stand the mess of them after cracking them open. So I get Egg Beaters brand eggs. The smell doesn't bother me at all and the cleanup is the easiest. And they taste great too!

If you aren't fond of them don't eat them. Seriously you do not need to be healthy.

    Bump!

Would love more ideas. Eggs, dairy and even meat were never a huge part of my diet growing up and now I really struggle to find ways to incorporate any of them into my meals. I find the text and taste of eggs really off-putting so any more recipes would be greatly appreciated!

You and me both! I've found that it's both the taste and texture of eggs that I can't stand. The only way I can eat them is if they're hard-boiled and seasoned well. I like Deviled eggs and egg salad, but not sunny-side up or scrambled eggs. I'd love to love them other ways, but no dice.
