possible MS revelation?

So I think I see a trend in the pain I get in my muscles (I have Multiple Scleorsis)... the more sugar (refined) I consume in the day, the more pain I have at night. I think I've read that sugar causes inflamtion, so that makes sense. If I eat a bunch of fruit though, I don't see the relationship... hmmm

if this is true, I'm gonna have to dig up some discipline! I'm pretty sure I have a slight allergy to any fake sugars, so I can't do 'diet' things.

Anyone else out there with MS (or another auto-immune disorder) have anything similar?

My mom felt the best with her MS when she was using the MS Diet book. The fat per day allotment is super tiny, however, and she needed fish oil supplements to make it manageable.
  • one of my best friends has ms and she really doesn't ever talk about anything like that...stress has more impact on her...i should ask her though if she maybe notices anything like that..?

I do not have MS......but thought I would mention Stevia....I use sun crystals. It is made from a leaf, like sugar from sugar cane. I have had no reactions to it. A bit of an after taste but 1 packet in tea with milk and I feel like I have had a sweet treat at night.

I was told to lay off the refined sugar after my heart surgery to help with healing and inflammation.

Less pain would be enough to help me make the decision to refrain from sugar........wonder if it is causing some of my neck pain? Hmmm food for thought.

I dont have ms I have fibromyalgia. I havent really noticed a connection between sugar and the pain. But I was eating alot of ice cream and since I started on this site I havent had any ice cream and have been eating healthier and I do feel better, my pain has been less. I thought it was because of my new lifestyle, but maybe it is the sugar.

I too have fibromyalgia and have felt better since using this site and monitoring my input and output. I have also been recently diagnosed with diabetes so I have been doing a lot of reading regarding sugar, glucose, fat etc. and the way it affects the body.

The way I see it is this a carb, is a carb, is a carb, it makes no difference to the amount of glucose in your blood whether the carb comes from sugar, fruit, wholewheat pasta, vegetables, or dairy products. Having said that there are obviously other differences for one thing everything in that list contains vitamines and minerals that the body needs to work efficiently and feed the muscles EXCEPT SUGAR. In other words if you stick to the correct calorie intake but your diet is high in sugar your muscles miss out on what they need to repair themselves. There is no need to give sugar up all together just have it in moderation.

Strangely enough since I stopped having refined sugar (I dont do artifical sweeteners either no unnatural chemicalsin my food)not only do I feel better but everything else tastes much sweeter.

I also have MS. I know that if I eat good foods. exercise has been my saving grace. keeps me strong and helps maintain my weight.
