These boards are so infuriating

Seriously if I read another of those 'I'm eating 1200 calories and exercising one hour a day and not losing weight' thread, I might have to kick something.
Maybe it's time for a break.

I find people creating posts to moan about those sorts of topics worse....
Those people just need educating, you just need to relax !0 -
That's the thing though... I'm getting annoyed at MFP. They should be the ones educating people, and at least explaining people how their app works when they sign up!0

Yes I agree with that, however they don't so if you see a post like that educate the person0

to be fair, there are about a billion different diets out there, more if you count home-grown ones, and then another entire set of exercise regimes. add in cleanses and fasts, and of course different perceptions of what a body should look like. now add in experience level, personal issues, and eating disorders.
and finally? add in a bunch of acronyms (BMR, TDEE, etc) that are made to sound more complex than they are because they have so many ways to be calculated with various names attached (Mifflin-St Jeor, Harris-Benedict, Katch-McArdle, etc.), somewhat confusing fudge factors (activity level) that are oddly unspecific for results so specific, and results that possibly conflict with personal experience (even if they might be ultimately 'more' correct).
now add in impatience, because sometimes it's hard to wait a month to see results when you're kicking *kitten* everyday.
so, yea, these boards are going to get people that are trying to be healthy and meet specific goals -- often following extreme (at least for them) regiments -- and to wildly differing results.
help them, or ignore them, but getting upset isn't fair. you figured it out already. that's awesome. i only recently entered my data and discovered i'm eating at a ridiculous deficit despite what i thought was a fair to large calorie count.
with any advice as odd (even if correct) as 'eat more to lose weight', expect the question to be asked again. and again. and again.0 -
it would help (I'm new also and just figured out the eating thing myself within the past 4-6 weeks) if the app would calculate calories correctly.....problem is that when people start using the MFP app/site it almost immediately pumps out 1200 calories.. when they first start up....that's too low for most of us and then you add in exercise calories that people don't realize they need to eat back and the problem is compounded by the very app/site they are using0
