Monster energy drinks - what's your opinion?

I'm a really good sleeper and I usually get about 7 - 8 hours per night. However, at times when I don't sleep well, I wake up a complete zombie and I feel like I can't get through my day at all.
On those days, which are I'm going to guess about 2 - 3 per month (but sometimes I go months without one) I have a can of Monster zero sugar, 500ml.
I eat breakfast at work first thing, and then I sip the drink until around lunchtime (only because it's so huge, I can't just gulp it). Then lunchtime comes - and I'm not hungry at all!
First thought - what an excellent diet aid!
Second thought - cannot possibly be good for me...
What is the deal with those drinks? Ok in moderation, or a complete no no?

Lately caffeine seems to be on the good list again as long as it isn't too extreme (and recent studies say extreme is pretty darn extreme; like more than 4 cups of coffee). Since you are going with sugar free, that is okay in my book. Some will say that caffeine drinks don't hydrate you. Science says they do, just not very efficiently. So it should not be your only source of hydration for any extended period.0

That's good, although I don't know if one can may equal more than 4 cups of coffee, caffeine-wise! Maybe worth checking out...
I'm working on getting up to my 8 glasses of water a day, it's a struggle, but I had 6 today, took me 3 weeks, so I'm keeping hydrated )0 -
I drink 1-2 Monster Absolutely Zero ( White Cans) A day, get B-12 shots and workout in the evening and I'm able to fall asleep and wake up energized the next day. I on the other hand am drinking anywhere between 10-15 cups of water a day. I guess they effect each person individually. I LOVE THEM!!!!0

I think they're fine to have in moderation - I drink several of the no-sugar Monsters a week. I love them.0

caffeine (most stimulants in general) are appetite suppressants which is why you probably dont feel hungry at lunch. I used to drink monster rehab everyday but switched to black coffee...i dont like consuming too much artificial sugar.0

I always say listen to your body if it doesn't make you feel run down or jittery and its only a few days a month it seems alright to me. But if I drink a monster I feel cracked out for hours, but i'm super sensitive stimulants0

I am an avid supporter of sugar free energy drinks lol I just discovered red bull zero, but my favorite is xenergy cran raz. I don't drink coffee (doesn't sit well in my belly) but every now and then I get the 1:00pm nods and need something to get me through the work day, i've also discovered that it curbs my chocolate cravings.0

I stay away from anything un-natural because your body will start to depend on it and when you don't feed it your body will shut down on you. So the natural way is always best.0

I drink two ulta zero ones a day! I love the white ones and blue ones!!! Bad for me, maybe, but I love them! I do not drink soda. I drink about 100oz a day of water. I sleep just fine and do not have any problems with heart racing or anything! I do know my heart is healthy however... I might be wrong, but when you hear about the stories where people die from energy drinks, they typically have an unknown heart problem/defect, or abuse caffine intensly.

Buy seltzer water + Green Thunder Mio = Cheaper and better for you "Monster"
My husband does this and he said it tasted almost just like a Monster but it is better for you and cheaper.
I cut out energy drinks when I started, and honestly I don't even care for them anymore. I don't NEED them because I eat better and feel better. I'd probably fall down in a seizer fit if I drank one now. lol0 -

In moderation. I have maybe one or two a month? I drink tea to help me wake up so maybe that's an option? There are many delicious higher caffeine teas that won't give you the jitters. I like yerba mate0

Caffeine GOOD! Dehydration concerns are overstated unless you're either particularly sensitive to caffeine (in which case you wouldn't want Monster energy drinks to begin with) or are basically freebasing them.0

I feel like there is a lot of caffeine in Monster plus Guarana which is another stimulant plus a ton of other ingredients that I am unsure of. I am pretty sensitive to caffeine and try to stick to 1 cup of coffe and one cup of green tea a day. I would try switching over to caffeinated herbal tea, because you are certain of what the ingredients are. I get turned off by the crazy colors those drinks are, to me drinking anything that is neon in color is probably not healthy. That is just my personal opinion though. If you do not feel any adverse side effects then I wouldn't worry too much for now.0

As far as weight loss if you fit it in your macros then you're good. As far as health those things can't be too good for you as with any other soda - once in a while won't hurt.
If you need the extra kick and don't like coffee pop a caffeine pill..0 -
They taste horrible. I'd rather just put speed in my coffee.
But to answer your question, they're fine.0 -
I drink the Monster Zero Ultra (White Can) every day, just 1. I too open it at breakfast and it lasts me 3-4 hours.
Even though it is calorie free and no sugar, I still consider it a "treat" for the day. It has just the right taste that I feel I am being bad, even though I am not...LOL. So it really does help me. To answer you question, I do not know if it is bad or not. Probably would be if you drank 3-4 a day...0 -

RED BULL-NO CARB, LOVE IT!0
-
I try and limit them but I LOVE the monster rehab's - 20cals per can - non carbonated (carbonation makes me bloat up like crazy) and they have one with added protein (more calories though)0

Rockstar sugar free is my fave x x x0

Monster zero is my fave drink ever. 1 can lasts me forever and stops me feeling hungry. Plus people in the UK thy sell it in some branches of poundland!!! For sure that drink has helped me to get to the point i am at now!!!0

RED BULL-NO CARB, LOVE IT!
Red Bull makes me feel like I'm going to have a heart atttack.....or maybe it's the red bull mixed with the vodka that's an issue0 -
I don't like the taste of Red Bull, and I've never seen Monster in white cans here in the UK... the zero one is in a black/blue can?
Well it seems should be ok to continue as a treat once in a while! Good to know!0
