I'm sitting here at my desk pondering what to have for lunch today from our canteen as i've stupidly left my lovely fresh home made salad at home (that i will now have for dinner).
How good/bad for you are jacket potatos for lunch? i will eliminate the butter but have it with beans and a small amount of grated cheese. all i hear is they are loaded with carbs, but are they really that bad?

Have the potato and see if you can get a side salad. Carbs aren't the enemy.0

It's only 1 potato, it's really not gonna kill you. As the other poster said, carbs are not the enemy.0
-
Carbs aren't a problem unless you have a medical condition that prevents you from eating them. Barring that, you'll be fine.
Potatoes are filling and tasty, IMO.
Enjoy your lunch.0 -
I could eat a potato every day.0

Sounds good to me - I eat potatoes most days, I like potato with tuna, chopped tomato, sometimes a bit of cheese. Saint!0

what is a jacket potato???
a baked potato with toppings/fillings0 -
Oh, so like a loaded potato? Why do you have to get all the bad toppings? Just get the potato, topped with maybe some salsa or chili. It will be filling, and potatoes aren't the devil. Just don't eat 12 of them a day.0

It's British for "baked potato with stuff in it".0 -
YESSSS, have it! fill it with beans or tuna, peppers, cucumber etc! I either have mines for lunch and a chichen salad for dinner or the other way about - really filling also :-)0

Potatoes are wonderful. I love adding broccoli, butter and cheese, but it puts me STRAIGHT to sleep.0

Yes have it. Go easy on the cheese, butter, and sour cream, and heavy on broccoli or other veggies available for it. It's a balanced, nutritious lunch.0

Eat the skin too! (jacket)0

So. Heavy.
Do they offer baked sweet potatoes? I think I'm going to make one of them for lunch now that I'm thinking about baked potatoes...0 -
I also enjoy sweet potatoes baked in the microwave, top them with black beans and salsa0

If you are going to have your potato with beans and a little bit of cheese, go for it. Sounds yummy, filling, and nutritious.0

As an Irish person I have to say a meal here isn't a meal unless you have some kind of spud on it! Eat your spuds up, they give you 'rosy cheeks and curly hair!!!'0

butter, sour cream, and cheese are where all the good fat is. Eat plenty of those toppings. ^__^ It'll keep you full longer.0
-
mmmmm potatoes! They aren't all that bad. I'm actually having a sweet potato with ghee and cinnamon for lunch today with a cornbread muffin0
-
Go for it0

I lost about 17lbs on slimming world a few years back and I used to have a jacket potato with beans and salad almost every day when I was at work so they can't be that bad!! To be fair, only used to do that as I used to struggle with ideas that didn't use up one of my 'b' options (ie bread/meat/etc)0

I have jacket potato with tuna and mayo for lunch a lot during the week, in our dining hall at work. Delish and filling0

Be sure to eat the skin because it gives you lovely fiber to help slow digestion! Enjoy your potato!0 -

This! I love a small white or sweet potato, skin and all, sometimes topped with vegetarian chili for a meal. And they are so inexpensive and easy to make in the microwave at work.0
