So I got offered a new job and I was off this week as I don't start til Monday. In the last week I have gained 4lbs. 4 freaking pounds. Seriously. Sometimes I just feel like it's just so tough to stick to and when I see numbers like that on the scale its gutting :-(
Any words of encouragement as my inner fatty wants a chinese takeaway to soothe my hurt ego :-(

Is it that time of the month? I see a 5 lb increase st that time. Is your sodium high that may cause it. Are you stressed about the change? Stress can trigger cortazol production in the body.
For the most part 5 lbs is a standard fluctuation and not something to worry about unless it hangs on for a few weeks.0 -

5lbs really isn't that much, depending on my water/sodium/TOM I generally fluctuate within 4-5 lbs. Keep at it, giving up will turn it into a real weight gain, which right now it probably isn't. The stress of starting a new job can affect you a lot, take a deep breath and just keep swimming. Once you get settled you're body will too.

I am a bit stressed, I had a huge fight with my brother this week which could be partially responsible as I am one of these folk who does gain weight when I'm stressed. But I don't think I've been naughty enough with my diet for that kind of gain...0
-
Of course its a constant battling..whether you are fit,or not, whatever you will do it will always be battling..your self discipline, your willpower..yourself..its a commitment you have to make and ppl can encourage you, advice you, help you.but it will be always just you against yourself alone..0

I saw a 6 lb gain on the scale in one week and I can totally relate--to that and the fact that it's a constant fight!!
First off, hang in there, don't look to the Chinese food to help you feel better, because it's only food, it can't do that for you and you'll only feel worse afterwards.
Make a smart and healthy choice for lunch instead of the Chinese--by taking control of that, you'll hopefully feel more empowered and energized.
Look for some small ways to relax, take a quick walk around the block, de-clutter an area in your house or just find a soothing picture on the net and imagine yourself relaxing there when you start getting upset and stressed out.
You can't change what happened this last week, but you can make sure that next week at this time that you're not in the same situation! Hang in there!0 -
I think that the fact that you're on here and you admitted to flubbing on your diet is a huge positive. Many people (myself included) lose momentum and hide when we become discourage, usually blowing any positive changes made.
Just keep on keeping on. Don't eat Chinese food (seriously, you'll be hungry again in an hour!). Go do something for YOU, to make YOU happy. Buy shoes, hit golf balls, get a pedicure.
You are doing great... just a minor hiccup in the road. Keep up the good work; work hard!0 -

Thanks this is exactly what I needed to hear -I'm only human, I have no intention of starving myself or denying myself the occasional treat, I just want to get healthy. I'm usually sensible and I've come pretty far on my own, but I'm struggling now :-(0 -
We all struggle!! And some days/weeks/months it feels more like a battle than others! I sometimes wonder why it can't just be "easy" for once, but have realized that when I keep on track and am exercising, that although it's not "easy," It becomes "EASIER!"
I was struggling a lot yesterday...and I mean A LOT. But it actually was one of the best days that I've had because instead of giving into it, I worked harder at it. Because of that, I felt a greater sense of accomplishment and today I feel MUCH better.
Above all though, try not to let the number on that scale define your sense of worth or accomplishment or how happy (or not) you are going to be today! Because you really ARE more than just what that number says and it can't be indicative of all that you are or all that you have accomplished so far.0 -
If you've honestly eaten well since your previous weigh in then don't worry about it, you'll have a good drop in your next weigh in.
If you haven't eaten well just remember your feeling of disappointment in yourself and learn from it.0 -
I understand where you are coming from, but remember that you body normally fluctuate 5lbs during the day...
In addition, the scale is just a number. It doesn't mesure happiness, or anything else. Who know's maybe you put on muscle mass.
I lost 97lbs in the past, and unfortunately an unhealthy relationship has maybe me gain. So, here I am back on the weight lost process... But I see it as a journey that will have it's ups and downs, challenges and temptation, defeat and victory,... So, keep at it!0
