Ok I like to run and I run with my dog but sometimes I would like to get my mother or father involved but they suffer from bad knees due to sports with coaches with the no pain, no gain attitudes from their youth? What would be a good way to help them with their knees to help them get out with me?

Low impact exercises like walking, swimming. Water aerobics.0

If it's hurting them it probably isn't great for them to force themselves to do it, especially if it's that attitude that got them there in the first place. Maybe just ask them to go for walks or a bike ride, maybe swimming?0

My best recommendation - simply walking at a comfortable pace for them. You can still bring your dog along. I know it's not the most effective for weight loss but it's usually a great starting point, especially for anyone with joint pain.0

Swimming is GREAT for people with bad knees. There are supplements they can take to help rebuild cartilage too. One that I have found particularly helpful, other than herbal inflammation fighters like turmeric (a spice) and bromelain (an extract from the pineapple plant) is egg shell membrane. Between these three, (in addition to going to the pool twice a week for an hour) and taking some weight off, my knees are WAAAAY better. Hope they follow through on helping themselves.0 -
Walking at their pace, on flat surfaces......they will increase naturally when they can.
Biking, in my experience, will hurt the knee if they are injured. I can't bike - I have a dislocating knee cap.
I would just ask them if they want to go to the park or wherever with you. And plan on doing a small walk, gradually increase over time. Don't set out a long walk or they won't want to do it again.0 -
Yep... all of the above and .... GOOD SHOES!!!!0
