The Zumba Crew w/o 7-26

Options
Hi to all the of Zumba fans and those interested in learning more about Zumba! This thread is for the week of July 26th.
This thread is full of people who love Zumba, which is a latin dance inspired aerobics fitness craze that is very addictive

I hope everyone is doing well, and is sticking with their healthy lifestyle! I, personally am having a very unmotivated day, and I am trying to convince myself to go this evening. One good thing about becoming an instructor will be that extra push to go to class each time!

I hear you! If I didn't have a 90 minute class to teach tonight, I'd be curled up on the couch for sure :)

I love Zumba! But I can't go this week because of an injury. I'll be back dancing my butt off next week for sure! Oh how I miss it!

I would LOVE to become an instructor, but I bet they wouldn't want to take me being 193 lbs!!! I need to lose weight! I would LOVE to teach a starters class with real people around my area, people that are NOT too fit yet, people like me!!

I heard people are my work talking of a Zumba class and how much fun it was and I was afraid it would be too advanced for me. What are the vcr tapes or dvd discs being used at home for those who are doing that? I would really love to try this it sounds like alot of fun!

I do the dvds, they are easy to follow and they come with a break down of every dance move.

Yes, the dvds are a great starting place for sure. But keep in mind that zumba is for every fitness level! You can do all of the moves to suit your own needs, and as you learn you become more capable and agile. It is so addicting!

As for doing it in bare feet... i don't see why not? Unless your feet are hurting you by doing it, I can't see where it would cause any problems..but I am not a foot specialist so I am not sure. Some of the moves can be pretty high impact (if you choose to do them that way) so at a certain point I would suggest shoes just to help absorb some of that stress.

Halloweenmom - I don't think size is a factor in becoming an instructor at all. I know lots of very fit people in your weight category. What is important is shakin' it to the music and keeping your heart rate up! Don't be discouraged!

Hi everyone! This past weekend I finally became certified to become a Zumba instructor! I am super excited! My friend and I will be looking for class space in our area and I can't wait to get going! The class was pretty intense, but seeing as though I have some poundage to lose still, it can only get better from here! I'm excited and can't wait to get started :)

size definitely does NOT matter in becoming an instructor! I'm currently 207lbs and I certainly wasn't the largest person there! They want people who love zumba and who will spread the happiness that is zumba! Don't sell yourself short - if you want to do it, go for it! It is an intense class though, so just be ready :)

Ok so I need some advice.

here is the back story.(sorry it's kinda long)
I have been attending a zumba class for the past few months that was taught by a girl who was fairly new to zumba. She had a hard time getting a handle on most of the steps, and people were starting to notice that she was often off the beat. She is also naturally very quiet, and was not very motivating. That made people get frustrated and they quit coming.

Then last Wednesday, she was out of town and so another girl and I led the class. She has lots of experience teaching dance, and I have lots of experience with zumba, and have been a sub several times for my old class. Anyway, the class went GREAT, and everyone really had a great time! Our co-teaching really worked out, and the studio owner got lots of comments about how they loved our class. The director decided to have the original instructor observe the next class with us teaching, in hopes that she would get the hint that she needed to pick up the energy and the steps.

So it all boils down to this: The original instructor quit today, saying that she didn't think it was right to be mentored by people who are not zumba certified. As you all may know, you don't get zumba CERTIFIED, because there is no test that you have to pass. You get licensed to teach zumba instead. Between myself and the other girl, we were more qualified, even without the right to call our class 'zumba'.

So that is where you guys come in. We are signed up for zumba instructor training in October, but until then, we need to call our class something else. Does anyone have any catchy ideas? Would it be illegal to call it 'zumba inspired Latin dance aerobics"? Or what if we came up with an acronym for Z.U.M.B.A.? Would that be illegal if we are not using the actual zumba name and logo? Or should we just go with something completely different until we are definitely allowed to call it Zumba in October? And do you think we need to use music that is not zumba related for now so that we don't get in trouble? It is all so complicated because all of the instructor tranings near us are sold out until October.

Hi just saw your post. Thought I'd try and answer your question. Yes, you do need to take Zumba out of the class name until you take the instructor class. Zumba Office does check up on these things and it keeps us all legit. It would save you some headaches until you take the workshop. I would explain to the class you'll be pretty much doing the same stuff you're already doing up to workshop time, however until then you have to rename the class,. Ask that they please bear with you you until then when you can legally call the class Zumba Fitness again.
I know this because I was teaching a Zumba class for kids until the deadline in June to stop until I take the Zumbatomic workshop. I had to call it Zumba and make it a kids only class. I could not call it Zumbatomic.I'm taking the workshop in August at the Convention and will be able to start my classes up again for kids and legally call it Zumbatomic.
    Hope this helps!!

Some Zumba classes move very fast and others don't just depends on the instructor and those participating in the class. The trick is to do the moves the best you can at your own speed. Each time you attend a Zumba class you get more of the steps. You also start relaxing just a little each time you attend because you start feeling more comfortable in the class. Zumba is set up so anyone can do it!! Just have FUN!! You'll love it whether you take a class or do it at home with a dvd.I will say it's way more fun in a class with other people who are laughing and having fun than by oneself at home. When I am working on choreography for my classes at home it's fun but, I enjoy this same choreography so much more in my classes as we laugh and have Fun with it. I do make mistakes occasionally!! Still FUN!!

I'm planning to order the DVD set this weekend - it looks so fun! I want to use it at home on the days I don't go to the gym so that I go from working out 3 days a week to 6.
