fat percentage?

Hello everyone,

I measured my fat percentage at 4 different sites and it varied from 31-38 and I am classified as obese. I didn't measure my fat percentage to start. But my my BMI went from 29.1 (obese) to 26.9 (overweight) and I am looking to lose 25 lbs. I 'm just a little confused about the fat percentage, is it that I have lost muscle as well and not enough fat? What should I do? I have noticed that my measurements do not change much. Very discouraging!
Btw, I'm a female, 5'7'' and I weigh 172lbs. My goal is to be 145 lbs
thanks!

  • I am in a similar situation. I am seeing little to no progress as far as measurements are concerned.

This site here http://exrx.net/Calculators/BodyComp.html can give you more information about your body fat percentages. Pick "3" under the "# of sites" tab, and pick any permutation of the 4 you already have and plug them in. In my opinion, that is the most accurate way to find out what you're made of. I feel the BMI measurement is a general guesstimate at best. That sites calculator is great because it also tells you your lean mass calculation as well as your overall body fat percentage. To have a high body fat percentage just means that there is more fat on the body than needed. If you are working out (as opposed to just eating better) in addition to maintaining a healthy diet then you SHOULD (not guaranteed, though) keep your lean body mass about the same and simply "melt" the fat off. Don't give up!
