Yikes- what is happening?

Hi there,
I am having some serious struggles. Within the last two months I have gained about 5-6 lbs. I know, it may not be that much to everyone, but it is to me. I have been trying to get back on board and logging everything I eat. I have officially started this two days ago.
Over the last 3 days I keep gaining weight (I understand it is likely water weight), but I am just freaking out. Over the last two days I have eaten 1600 calories yesterday and I burned 580 calories from working out. Then today I ate 1550 calories and burned 440 with exercise. I understand that this consumption may be low... but I have overeaten in the past... like WAYYY over eaten and that has resulted in the 6 pound gain (of fat). So, all of this to say that I know that I would lose water weight from these first two days but why am I not? Why am I gaining instead?

I have done cardio for my workouts and I have also sat in a sauna for 15 minutes after each workout. Also, I have been drinking 8-9 cups of water per day and my sodium as been about average of 2500 if not 500-700 less. It is also not my time of the month.
Thanks in advance!

Can you provide stuff like your height, weight, age and sex... Also, have you considered weight training? And yes, eating 1600 calories will not allow you to gain fat. It's probably normal fluctuations in body weight. Heck, i can gain 10 lbs in one day.

I guess all of that would be important ;) Ha! I am 5'3, 120 lbs. and 20 years old.

1: Do you believe that 3500 calories equals one pound of fat? If you don't believe that, then there's really not much point in you counting calories.
2: Oh, you do believe that? Good.
3: Do you believe that your body requires a certain number of calories just to maintain itself? You know, cause you're a mammal with warm blood and not a reptile. If you don't believe that, then there's not much point in counting calories. Just eat one snickers bar a day until you weigh what you want.
4: Oh, you do believe that? Good.
5: Your total caloric intake over the last 3 days you have netted 3300 calories, and that doesn't include taking out what your body needs to survive.
6: That's not even a pound of fat raw. Take away the 1000 calories a day your body needs minimum (it's actually much more than that, but I don't want to freak you out) and you have cleared a whopping 300 calories.
    7: 300 calories is about 2 ounces.
8: There is NO WAY the weight gain you are experiencing is fat gain. It's fluid retention and a host of other completely normal bodily functions.
9: EVERYBODY goes through this when they start back up. It's perfectly normal. That's why everybody who has done it will tell you to stay off the effin scale for at least the first two weeks.
    10: Ain't math grand?

Did you just start working out? When I first started working out along with using MFP, it took me a good 3 weeks to change on the scale but it's been consistent since.

Don't beat yourself up too much.

I have been pretty consistent in working out. I have only taken 1 day off in the last two weeks. I normally do cardio and have recently started doing HIIT with running & walking intervals.

I could be completely wrong and this is a lot to infer from just your post, but it sounds to me like this is all a mountain of stress to you. Embrace it and enjoy it. It's a lifestyle. Educate yourself. Don't stress out so much about small things. You sound like you are too hard on yourself. If you just started, it can take a while for your body to adjust. Are you driking enough water? Are you sure? Quit worrying about your past and know you control yourself and your future.
