I would say, YES.. you're only supposed to have 300/600 calorie deficit. Any thing any more and it's hard to bounce back from

Depends who much you got to lose I'd say. But if it's less than 100lbs, it's probably not a good idea.

By looking at your ticker on your profile you only have about 30lbs left to lose so in your case 1000 calories a day as a deficit is most likely far too large. You should be aiming for 500 cals as a deficit.

Too large of a deficit doesn't allow you to fuel your body properly. It also will increase the amount of muscle you lose along the way.

That is a good question. Yesterday I ran for 22 minutes and then did upper body weights. Later in the day I did a bunch of raking and yard work and ended the day with a 40 minutes bike ride with my dogs. Total calorie burn for the day (according to my BodyMedia Fit armband) was 1279. My calorie goal which is my BMR is 1470 and I didn't even eat that much. I was so busy and didn't have an appetite. Although I did make time for a couple of protein drinks and some fresh fruits.

At the end of the day, MFP was saying that I had 1479 calories remaining. There is no way I could have eaten that much. Maybe 1/3 of it.

This is not a typical day for me. So I would say that if you are consistenly under by 1000 calories, eat more nutrient dense foods. If it only happens once in a while, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Follow the below guidelines:

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.

I was on a more than 1000 deficit for a 5 months, but under the supervision of a dietitian and on a meal replacement program. That ensures a healthy diet with all the nutritional needs met. Not recommended to do it by yourself. I had a HUGE amount to lose, and still do.

I would suggest a smaller deficit and take longer to achieve lasting results. To be healthy at the end of the process and not just thinner. :)

Every so often I might have a 1000 deficit. Not very often though. It's usually when I work out 3 times a day and I run out of time to eat (and I am on 1200 cals a day on here) so it happens. I have 40 left to lose and I try to stay at around 600 though. That's helped me lose 2 pounds a week.
