Callouses from barbells

Am I right in assuming that these new callouses I seem to have developed on my palms (well upper palms, where my fingers meet) are from my new found love of heavy lifting?

Yes. They are marks of honor and pain. Revel in them. Feel good, is good.0

start gripping the barbell with your fingers, not the palms of your hands.0
-
I would say YES!!!!! I have the same callouses in the same spot from lifting and doing pull-ups.0
-
More than likely, they're common for that. Gloves can help!0
-
Yes ma'am, be proud of them!! However, using lifting gloves can help reduce the formation of them, as well as moisturizing after lifting.0

Why on earth would you recommend not wearing gloves?0 -
Harbinger workout gloves. They help you get a better grip so you can lift heavier too.0

Thanks guys!
Looks like I'll be adding gloves to my workout wardrobe.. Any specific ones I should go for?0 -

Gloves don't give as good of a grip.
Chalk is better.

get chalk.
keep a pumice in the shower and give your callouses a going-over before you get out.0 -
Just wait until you get the ones on your back from squats  Just trim them every so often because having them rip off is NOT FUN:noway:0

Get you some Gold's Gym gloves with velcro wrist supports from Walmart...$15 bux. They also have some cheaper ones for $5. Or just use whatever gloves you have lying around.
EDIT...I hate having callouses, not using gloves is silly.0 -
This can help you avoid callouses without suffering the humiliation of wearing gloves

Calluses are part of the territory. I don't wear gloves as they interfere with grip strength.
Chalk can certainly be helpful.
The Mark Rippetoe video is good, however someone on a friend's page posted a link to another Mark Rippetoe video on calluses and grip that is a bit more in depth:
