How many eggs are too many eggs? I don't have any problems with my cholestorol (sp?) Is it ok for me to have between 6-8 hard boiled eggs a week?

Thanks for you input :flowerforyou:

I have chickens and so I eat a lot of eggs. It is probably an individual thing. If your cholesterol is okay then eat what you want. They are chock full of the omega fatty acids, and are not the evil thing we were taught to believe!

I LOVE eggs. I eat about 3-4 eggs a day for breakfast and I'll sometimes have them just as a snack during the day.

    WTG Barney!!
Yeah, I ate two egg this morning
2 hard boiled eggs after my workout last night
2 for breakfast yesterday as well...

you get the point... It's problem when combined with the wrong kind of carbohydrates. My crossfit trainer uses his bacon grease, and fries 3 eggs + 1 egg white.

I have at least one egg every single day. Last week I had a two-egg omelette for breakfast five mornings out of seven, that equalled to 12 eggs. I love eggs, they are my friends

I love eggs. I used to eat 2 every day - at least 5 days a week and sometimes on weekends too. Then the Dr. told me my cholesterol was too high. It may not have happened to you yet - but it will if you eat that many eggs. Just set your settings to track Chol and see how many MFP says you should have - now see how much is in one egg (210)! Now I savor one or two every couple weeks and use Egg Beaters the rest of the time. Not so bad if you add stuff to them! Good luck!

I eat them pretty much every day. Usually 1 egg with egg whites but some days are 2 whole eggs.

I agree that eggs have gotten a bad rap. I have high cholesterol and I don't eat unlimited amounts of eggs but I do eat 2 a week because they are full of some wonderful nutrients. My nutritionist said it is important to eat the yolk too because of all of the nutrients that are not in the white alone. I was told by her and my doctor to only eat 2 complete eggs a week and if I want additional eggs I use the whites only. I don't buy the egg substitutes because they seem to have a lot of sodium. I replace one egg with two egg whites and I throw out the yolk (I know this is hard to read for all of us frugal people):noway: but it is still cheaper then buying egg substitute and I think healthier.:flowerforyou:

I enjoy eggs too, but to save on my calories and fat I pretty much stick to eating liquid egg whites. I get all the protein with little fat and calories. They don't taste like much, but I add in veggies, cheese, salsa, whatever and enjoy. But there is no replacement for me for an egg over-easy...love the gooey yolk!

6-8 hard boiled eggs a week is fine. Eggs have gotten a bad rap, but like anything you can overdo. One a day is very reasonable as long as you are also aware of other sources of eggs in other foods you are eating along the way.

 I have 6 to 10 eggs a week also and so far it has not adversely affected my cholestrol. I have it checked annually also. Eggs have gotten a raw deal. I love my eggs and they are good for a healthy lifestyle. I also like egg beaters. So if I am ever told I can't have eggs I will be cool. But thus far I have not seen a boiled egg beater! And that is how I eat most of my eggs is boiled. Nice little quick snacks and good on salads.

I changed my tracker to reflect how much cholesterol I should have. It said 300 per day (g?) Two whole boiled eggs is 424! That was a little scarey. Maybe I should do 1 whole egg and 1 egg white? Mine are farm fresh too, we have a girl at work who has chickens.

Ick at the gooey yolk! My husband makes soft poached eggs with toast every now and again. I can't even look at them

I was surprised too - but I rather have a natural occurring salt versus the kind that in highly processed foods. I suppose if your are doing figure competitions it will make a difference though. 50-60 grams of sodium for one egg white is not really a lot, it does add up when one eats 6-8+ egg whites per meal. Most natural foods have a certain amount of sodium, and sodium is needed by the body.
Eating natural sodium in natural food, as I know, is okay.

Mmmmmmmmmmm love that... I'm coming over!

I love eggs, although I never have time to cook them (or remember to boil up some eggs). I keep a small carton of liquid eggwhites at work... my revenge on my retarded co-workers is cooking some up in the microwave, and then listen to the chorus of "I smell eggs?!?"

There used to be a recommendation of no more than 2 eggs per week but in Australia and the UK they've rescinded that and there is no recommended limit. Basically, they've decided that eggs are the same (or better) nutritionally than a lot of other protein foods I think! So yep, I would say 6-8 as part of a varied diet is fine :)

Everyone worries about eating eggs in relation to their cholesterol content. However, egg yolks do have something called ecoisanoids, which you can learn more about from reading Dr Barry Sears book on use of high dose fish oil. (He was the doctor that created the Zone Diet). Ecoisanoids relate to inflammaton in the body, and inflammation is something to be avoided. Many chronic diseases are associated with inflammation--arthritis, for instance, auto-immune diseases.

My solution is to eat one egg yolk (for the fat) and then have just egg whites of additional eggs. This is also a way to make your scrambled eggs or omelette the "right" color. I love hardboiled eggs as it is so easy to remove the yolk if you want to pass on eating it. One things Sears mentions in the fish oil book is removing the yolk and replacing it with a teaspoon of hummus. Very tasty.

Regarding cholesterol. People sometimes forget that your body NEEDS a certain amount of cholesterol to function properly. Just like the body NEEDS fat (the right kind) for healthy skin, hair, etc.

There is no proven connection between dietary cholesterol and serum (blood) cholesterol. I eat 8-10 eggs per week at least. If you can afford it, though, definitely get pastured/local eggs rather than the ones at the grocery store. They have a lot more flavor and micronutrients. I only use the store eggs for baking.
