My husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I am currently significantly overweight, I have probably a good 100 pounds that I should loose. I had a full physical a little over a year ago, my blood pessure was slightly high but within the range of normal, my blood sugar was normal, cholesterol was normal, everything was normal.

Anyone have any experienc being pregnant and significantly oveweight?

I've also heard that it's not uncommon for women who start overweight to loose weight durring pregnancy if they maintain a healthy diet. Anyone experience this?

I would just go ahead and get your food on track (If you aren't already) I became overweight in my first pregnancy and gained 40 lbs. My blood pressure became so high they had to induce me 2 weeks early because they were afraid I was going to have a stroke and could affect the baby. If you are eating good, you should be able to at least maintain your weight in your pregnancy =] Good luck!

You will put yourself at risk for complications, but that doesn't mean you will necessarily experience them. You may also have trouble getting pregnant because of your weight (I have a friend who has 100+ lbs to lose and has been trying for 2 years and now still has more weight to lose before they will even do fertility options).

I was 198, my heaviest, when I became pregnant and then gained 51 pounds during my pregnancy. At 38 weeks, having never had high Bp before in my life, I developed pre-eclampsia (very high blood pressure) and I was unsuccessfully induced which resulted in an emergency c-section.. my blood pressure took a month to come back down and I was in the hospital for a week, half of which time in high risk recovery on medication and pads on the bed rails in case I started to seize. I would not wish that upon anyway, so i certainly would work to get high BP in order before you even try. Even losing 10-15 pounds can lower it.

Also, do not count on losing weight with your pregnancy - every one and every pregnancy is different. Puking while pregnant is not fun, even if it means losing weight. Best of luck to you.
