This Is Hard.

Hello, Im 20 years old soon to be 21 next month and I am completely disappointed in my body. i should not look the way i do. Im still pretty lean but i have a huge tummy. :/ I am roughly 6 feet tall. I live in california and dont really get out too much. SO far ive been on my diet/workout for 5 days and its a struggle. I am so out of shape its not even funny. Although, i do feel lot better and more active since i started working out. Helpful tips?

Just stick to it. Make sure you're always eating in a deficit and being active on top of that is icing on the cake. If you feel you need more definition to your body, weight lifting might be the route you want to take. If so, look for the book called New Rules of Lifting for Women.

I know that 5 days can feel really reallllllly long, (trust me, I'm 6 days into a new routine) - BUT, give it time - stay consistent with eating healthy and under your calories and stay consistent with working out and you will see a ton of really wonderful changes in the way you look and feel! Make sure the goals you're setting (for being active and for eating) are fair - Rome wasn't built in a day :) The diet/workout DOES get easier with time - your body will start to adapt and (hopefully) even enjoy working out and eating well! Good luck!!

Make sure you take it one day at a time. Nobody ever got the body that they wanted over night. It will be a long and tough struggle to get what you want, but it will be worth it in the end. As long as you have your mind in the right place, the rest will follow. Also, make sure you have a strong support team. I'm open to a friend request if you need more people to give you encouragement and to answer questions along the way. :)

Don't mind me. I am a little OCD and must say this every time:

    "That's what she said!"

    Phew.. I feel better now.

keep at it. keep chipping away, little by little. make this a part of your life. before you know it you won't have to try and make it to the gym, or force yourself to eat healthy. you just will. it'll become a part of you.

It gets easiet. Don't think of it as a diet but a lifestyle. This is you now so get used to yourself.

1.Don't try to lose it fast. Focus on better food choices and exercise. Make sure you log everything.

    2. Eat lots of vegetables. As many as you can fit in your stomach. If you do this and can't reach your calorie goal eat your protein first then as many veggies as you need to fill up.

    3. Drink water, unsweetened tea (or sweetened with a no-cal sweetener, diet pop, you know low cal beverages to stay hydrated, don't drink your calories, beverages with lots of calories don't even register as calories ingested for some reason.

    4. Exercise. Do something you enjoy though. If you don't enjoy any exercise at least discipline yourself to take a daily walk or two. At least 30 minutes a day, it can even be broken up into smaller sessions of 10 or 15 minutes.

    5. Focus on Non-scale Victories, like better fitting clothes and moving easier and what not. That way when the scale fluxes you don't have to feel crazy.

    6. Respect yourself and what you are doing. So log everything and keep that focus on that you are making better choices and even if you aren't where you want to be right this minute you are taking steps literally to get there.

Once you get yourself into a routine, it becomes like second nature. Just hang in there and stick with it. You won't regret it.

A few short and simple tips to start:

If it were easy, everyone would be doing do it.
    It doesn't happen overnight
Keep it simple (It really is simple, it just takes effort)
The scale doesn't always indicate progress

I feel like a good way to keep yourself motivated is to set yourself up with some goals, set a bunch of mini-goals.
Whether it's weight goals or exercise goals--set some, work towards them, and feel the awesome feeling of accomplishment as you reach new heights.

Just my little bit of advice. Hope it helps. Good luck!

Everyone feels like this at some point. It's awesome that you've made the decision to get healthier. Just know that if you fall, just dust yourself off and get back up. Don't be too hard on yourself when you have those stumbles or you could derail yourself completely.

    Stay determined and good luck!
