Hey,

What's a good starting weight for someone who is just starting out? My very first workout was figuring out a few exercises with just 3kg, but the next day I was on 8kg. This is comfortable, but gets hard after 10-12 reps.

Anyone got any advice, please?

If you can do more than 10 it's probably time to up the weights. About 8 reps and 3-5 sets is ideal for an absolute beginner, and 5x5 is commonly accepted to be pretty good for someone who's able to do the exercise with proper form without much difficulty.

Yup. Keep increasing the weight until you fail. Cut the weight in half, and progress again. Whenever you deload, refocus on form and technique. It's a good time to check out tutorial vids and really dial in your technique.
