Burned 900 calories in 30 mins?!?!

I workout for 1.5 - 2 hours. I will run for ten minutes, lift weights and do 40 minutes of cardio afterwards (running, bike, Insanity, elliptical, jump rope, etc.). In which during that time, I have sweat dripping off me, I am SHOT and I burn between 800-950 calories (as per my HRM). Someone posted that they burned 900 calories in 30 minutes (running). I am curious, is this actually possible?

I'm going to guess not.
Unless they weigh 330lbs(like me) and run 8-9 min/mile(not like me)0 -
That does not sound remotely possible in 30 minutes.0
-
If I run at a fast pace for 30 mins I burn nowhere near 900. . I would say that amount isn't accurate.0
-
I am not a believer....in that.0

Oh sure, 'Light housework and 20 minute walk'. No, I don't think it's possible, I think someone is overestimating.0
-
I sure wish. I'd come home and chug liquefied cheesecake with protein powder if that were true.0

Was The Flash posting that? Because I could see it.0

I know you guys are going to disagree with me, but I think it could be possible; however, this person would have to be in insane shape. On one of my high intensity workout days I do a hill interval workout.
I toggle between 3.5 and 6.0 with the incline at 10 and go up to 15. I do 3.5 for 2 minutes then 6.0 for 3 minutes and repeat for 30 minutes. I burn at least 400 calories. So if someone actually ran the entire 30 minutes at a very high incline it is possible.0 -
not possible.0

I would think they would have to be very heavy and VERY fit on the inside. Unique blend of super athlete and sumo wrestler.
I burn about 11 calories a minute if I go full out HIIT.0 -
It might be possible if you're in awesome shape and if you do High Intensity Interval Training. Not sure about 900 calories, but you do get a higher burn with HIIT.0

The more athletic you are, the less energy is needed for your body to perform tasks, so logic would dictate that an in-shape person would actually burn fewer calories doing such a workout than someone who is carrying extra weight and would have to exert themselves more. I would think the less athletic person would have a hard time burning 900 +/- calories in that time frame without pushing their heart rate to an unsafe level for that amount of time. Is it possible? Maybe... would it be healthy? Probably not.0 -
Highly doubt it. When I'm pushing hard on the elliptical for 30minutes I burn less than 300. Brisk walking outside burns less. I see people posting these insane burns and wonder where on earth the got those numbers.0
-
I'm guessing unlikely. I hover in the 290-300 lb range. It takes 50-55 minutes of running for me to put up 900 calories. I guess it's possible but only if they weigh a lot, and can sustain very high insensity for 30 minutes.0
-
Not impossible. I highly doubt it though. It really depends on how overweight they are and how hard they worked.0

I see such in my news feed all the time. I don't even comment on the stuff because it just seems insane. I don't believe some of the calories burned listed are even in the ball park.... not even in the same zip code, as what was actually burned.0
-
On average, you burn roughly 100 calories per mile (run or walk)...this can be up or down dependent on your fitness level, etc...but generally 100 calories +/- 30-50...so I"m going to say 900 calories in 30 minutes is utter bull****. I run about 3 miles in 30 minutes and average about 315 calories per my HRM (less my BMR calories)0
-
if they weigh 240 lbs and run stairs for 30 mins, they would burn 816 calories, according to calories per hour dot com.
highly unlikely, but at a lower weight, they can be done with rest in between, assuming there are no knee issues.1 -
No! Also those claiming if they are in excellent shape don't understand the relationship with being more fit/in shape requires less energy output resulting in smaller burns. I could care less what people burn and think people put too much focus on it. 3500 calories burned a week group? Knock yourself out I guess. Just be active!1

There are many ways to burn calories.0 -
If they were around 150 lbs and could run 8 miles at a 3:45 min/mi pace they could do it. They would also be the fastest human on the planet.
Or if they weighed 400 lbs and ran 3 miles at 10:00 min/mi they could burn that much.0 -
what if it was a very in shape guy, wearing a bunch of weights, or fire fighting gear or military gear, or the such, and hes running up hills, flat out for 30 min. maybe?0
-
Like others have said, it's about energy required. All things equal, a man weighing 300 lbs is going to burn more calories doing the same exact thing in the same exact way that a 150 pound man is doing because the 300 pound guy is using more energy to move more mass.
Even if they are both sitting and playing chess, the fatter guy still has an edge on cals per min.
I know at my weight I do burn about 13-15 cals a minute while doing moderate+ intensity workouts. I don't have any way to get to 30 cals per min. If I weighed 30%+ more, perhaps, but then I wouldn't be able to move as much. So . . .0 -
I gonna get some popcorn and watch this 400# individual run a 5K in 30 minutes.... This should be good.0

The highest tested burns I've seen from marathon pace runs and tour de france rides are in the 14cal/min area from exercise. Now think about that. They are going at elite world intensity. Thats a pace that basically noone on here could hope to match. so if they are topping out at 840cal/hour range, then there is noone on this forum who is coming anywhere near to that. Thats why I always get amused when people are posting their similar burn amounts for their afternoon jog. It's straight up delusion.
As for 900 in 30min, that's straight up 100% impossible.

Possible...if they are Kenyans.0
-
I would need see their height, weight, age and the intensity of their heart rate. I am 6' 1" 210 and I burn about 1100-1200 per hour based on a 10 minute mile. The heart rate hangs out at about 140. When I run sprints the heart rate gets to 180-190, but I can't maintain that for 30 minutes. I do have a friend that is 6' 4" 255, and runs a 45 minute 10K. But still 900 for 30 sounds too high even for him.0

TLDR: you and your friend are deluding yourself if you think you're outworking tour de france riders...0 -

Yep, I had someone like that on my Friend list for a while. She'd have insane calorie burns every day. She wasn't running even. She was also maybe 25 pounds overweight, not obese. Eventually I had to hide her from my news feed.0
