My sugar intake limit is too low!

I go over my sugar intake almost every day. It's too low, it's like 27 grams. I can drink a cup of coffee and have my green smoothie and it goes over already. Although most of the sugar is coming from my green smoothie and there's nothing in there but fruits...mango, banana, pineapple and spinach.

same here! mine is 25 and EVERY SINGLE DAY I'm over...I have gotten to the point that I almost disregard it because its virtually impossible not to exceed my limit. After a cup of coffee and a grapefruit and banana, I'm already over and its not even lunch time....0

Yeah, I think they set it pretty low. I usually hit my sugar with my morning fruit and then go way over with just the veggies I eat during the day. Forget about it if I decide to have something processed like chocolate or something similar. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going over it by 3-5x what they put as the default.0

Open your diary so we can have a look? Mine is 24 and I do go over but not by much.0

Do most of your sugars come from fruit and veggies? If so, then no need to worry. MFP doesn't separate Natural sugars and processed sugars. So if your sugar intake is coming from nature's skittles, then you're fine!0
-
I have the same problem. I really think the limits set by MFP must refer to added sugar, not sugar found in fruits, etc. but it doesn't calculate right.0
-
i dont worry abt it too much it its not refined sugar. On the flip side though I do limit myself on how many high sugar items I have. IE a half of a banana instead of a whole one. A mango, maybe once a week, and i even limit how much yogurt i have because its very high sugar. i try to eat more vegetables that are a bit sweet, carrots or sugar snap peas. And i tend to eat a lot of berries and apricots because they arent super high in sugar.0

I am sorry to say this but all sugars have the same amount of calories. Where they differ is in amount of fiber. It's a bit irresponsible to mislead people.0 -
I don't even pay attention to my sugar count on here. I eat a lot of fruit and veggies so I know I'm going over. I do pay attention to the amount in the processed items I buy.0

Unless you are diabetic or your doctor has told you to keep your sugar low, I wouldn't worry about it. I go over everyday because I have a fruit smoothie... I feel great, I have a ton of energy, I am losing fat and gaining muscle...SO I'm not worried about it ( I do try to limit foods with sugar added though!) My advice, If you feel great- don't worry about it!0

Who said anything about calories? I believe we are discussing the healthfulness of natural sugars vs processed / added sugars.0 -
Mine too!
I eat a ton of fruit and I always go over my sugar intake. I figure as long as it is mostly from fruit or veggies it isn't so bad.0 -

The post didn't say anything about calories. Fruits are good because even though they may contain a lot of sugar, they also contain fiber and micronutrients.0 -
It's the exact same way for me. I'm going to start ignoring it. The AHA set a limit of suggested sugar intake of 30 grams per day max, which is equivalent to only 120 calories per day or about one quarter of average current consumption. Just read... What about the naturally-occurring sugars in fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based foods? Should these foods be limited as well? Unlike foods with added sugars, fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and other plant-based foods naturally contain vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that are important for the human body, as well as fiber and other types of beneficial carbohydrates. http://www.peertrainer.com/nutrition/how-much-sugar-should-you-have.aspx
So basically some sugars from fruits & veggies are not bad sugar like sodas, cake & such. So I'm gonna go by the types of sugars I'm having. Most of mine are from the fruits & veggies, so I'm not gonna worry about it so much anymore.0 -
I changed my settings to track fiber instead....... sugar is not that important to me unless it's the processed kind.0

There is a lot of research and evidence to suggest that sugar found in fruits should be limited. #JustSayinIt's the exact same way for me. I'm going to start ignoring it. Is there? This may be recommended for those with metabolic disorders, but for most people there is no reason to limit fruit within reason. Of course it's possible to overeat anything.0 -

Can you post some? By the way, this isn't Twitter :-(0 -
Yes, fruit is sooooo high in sugars, I am having a real problem with them also. I use to eat 3 fruits a day and now I will occasionally eat 1/2 of one. I am transitioning to this program and it has been a real change but I totally understand why people are so unhealthy out there after learning what our bodies need. Good luck with the sugar count too.0

I agree with this .... as long as you don't have medical issues & you don't go crazy with nutural sugars.... what's the problem.0 -

I never stated anything about the calorie count in sugars. I was simply stating that there is a BIG difference between Processed sugars and sugars coming from Fruits and Veggies. Obviously you need to monitor the amount of sugar you take in, but natural sugar and processed are not separated in MFP.0 -
I was just about to btch about that! Im already over by 3 and its only 10am!
All I've had was yogurt, bodywise multigrain bread with peanut butter, few slices of light cheese and a protein drink. Errrrrr0 -

Oh sorry I got confused, I use twitter a lot. Apparently you are *****y a lot, you got confused and made unnecessary off topic comments that help no one. I don't have enough characters to post studies because of my twitter addiction but feel free to use google.
Since you posted the statement, the ball is in your court to provide evidence to back it up.0 -
I hope I didn't make anybody think that fruit is unhealthy, I was just trying to keep under the sugar count for a day. After reading all the posts I will try not to get so hung up on the sugar count as long as I eat sugar from natural sources.0
